thanks Suze,

one paragraph in particular caught my attention --

<<The gut is, in fact, a major immune organ, containing more immune cells than

the rest of the body combined. The enteric nervous system interacts intimately

with the immune system, and can affect mood and behaviour by signaling the

central nervous system. >>

--- having recovered from two major auto-immune 'diseases' by nutritional

interventions and even overcome [mostly] fear of flying since giving up gluten

[guess Heidi must be cheering -:)] it seems the importance of proper nutrition

cannot be over-emphasised... still most people don't want to know... sigh...

----->i've read that about 85% of the body's immune cells are in the gut,

but that's logical in that a lot of stuff enters the body through the gut

(probably more so than the skin or lungs?) so it would need a first line

defense system. food IN the gut is considered to be *outside* the body, btw.

it doesn't enter the body until it gets absorbed into the blood stream. so

in a way, most of our immune cells are on the surface or outside of our

bodies!

Oh... didn't say I LIKE flying LOL... but no more panic attacks... 'sniffing'

on incense essential oil helps too as it slows breathing down considerably

and must therefore affect the hyperventilation panic attacks cause.

<<i've read that about 85% of the body's immune cells are in the gut,>>

--- in one of the links you posted the figure is -- 95% immune cells in the

gut!!! --

(BTW the article on http://www.aikidoaus.com.au/dojo/docs/2nd_braina.htm ,

is SO full of typos and other mistakes it's embarrassing...)

<<which auto-immune diseases did you have?>>

----- Sarcoidosis [17 yrs ago] and CFS [since 1995]... another immune related

problem of diminishing levels of serum ferritin and blood iron remains

unresolved... any supplemental iron in whichever form causes mild to severe

candidiasis.. all the docs can say is that it's an immune problem... living in

the UK; I'm still waiting for my appointment with the immunologist!

if anyone on the list has any ideas re my iron/ferritin problems... 'I'm all

ears'...

TIA

That's interesting. When I was a kid I always had a hankerchief with some

perfume on it, and I would sniff it ... I keep a bottle of my favorite

on my desk and it's my fallback if I get stressed. We burn candles

too ... (not recommended in buildings with smoke detectors or

security guards!).
