Or is that just in oil-based perfumes or undiluted forms? > > For example, lavender eo is usually classified as a top note, lavender absolute as heart note, and lavender concrete as base note. If you added lavender concrete to an alcohol based perfume, then strain the floral waxes and other insoluable materials from the concrete out, will the lavender still be a base note, lasting longer than if you had used lavender absolute? > > If so, why? I don't understand how after removing the waxes and insoluables how it would be different in volatility or staying power than the absolute. Isn't the absolute essentially a " strained " version of the concrete, without the waxes? > Hi .... You are dealing with the subjective stuff... That's where the *magic* comes in....<G>...! I am a fan of lavender....The first time I read about Lav Eo, Abs, and Concrete running the top-mid-bottom (Aftel) I went Cool....! Somebody else sees it the way I do.... You can't do this kinda thing by formula...It's by scent...... You hafta understand your essences... I dunno if that makes sense.... -- W. Bourbonais L'Hermite Aromatique A.J.P. Guest guest
I use Lavender Oil as middle and top notes. Depends of course of the fragrance I want to create and if it fits in a certain category. Lavender Absolute is absolutely fantastic. It last forever on a paper strip. So, definitely base note. Has also a nice touch of sweet warm Coumarin. I do not use Lavender concrete in my fragrances, since it is not soluble and just causes trouble and unnecessary work. Filtering for example. I don't agree that the Lavender Absolute is just heart note. It is also base note. Just check how long it stays on a blotter.
