Life extension and wine

There is a great article on life extension in the November

Discover magazine. One particular sentence I thought

might be apropos to the current conversation:

" Those interventions entail sacrifices that most people probably aren't willing

to make. But further research may yield more palatable strategies. In August

researchers announced that a compound called resveratrol, found in red wine,

mimics calorie deprivation and prolongs the life span of yeast cells by 70

percent. Some scientists doing the work said they had taken to drinking a glass

of red wine each day " .

Heh heh heh ... I think it's worth drinking the wine in the off chance it works,

doncha think?

When I started drinking wine, I would only drink

the really sweet stuff. Someone had the AUDACITY

to suggest that I would " mature " and start

appreciating the cabs after awhile. Oy and she

was right ... the longer I drink wine, the more

expensive my taste becomes and the lower

the sugar content!

However there are sweet reds ... a good beujolais

is nice, and merlots are sweeter than cabs.

Well, people have been telling me the exact same thing

for 10 years, and I'm still waiting to " mature " !!

Mind you, I turned 30 last week - maybe red wine will

taste different now????

Jo,

Happy birthday! I grew up thinking that Manischewitz was wine, and it took

me a lot longer than that to grow out of it :-)

This is soooooo true. It happens over and over again. I'm dangerous in a

wine shop, a bookstore, a cheese shop, and...a pipe and cigar shop. The

difference with the wine is that it can be very very expensive, LOL!

By the way, this is how I trained myself to eat raw meat. From well done

to totally raw. It took a long time but I got there. Some folks told me

this would happen and I laughed. Now when I'm in a steakhouse and I see

someone order a very expensive cut of meat and ask for it cooked beyond

rare i think what a waste of money. You are cooking all the flavor away,

LOL! Might as well go buy a steak from safeway.

Of course they could be there for many reasons other than the steak so

I'm not judging them just having some mental fun. But boy they don't

know what they are missing!
