Ask them to stretch out the " toe box " area - both in width and possibly length. If you're not wearing New Balance shoes, consider doing so. If you are wearing socks, consider trying no socks - years ago I discovered socks were not for my toes! Socks bunch, believe me, I've tried them, and socks also 'hold in' my toes. Without socks, my toes are free! If your toes are curling to the point of pain, and causing you other foot pain, consider some orthotics or consult with an orthopedist for other ideas.
