Guest guest
Hello i was diagnosed with aspergers 11 years ago. The services we get now are not much different from when i was diagnosed. i am now almost 28 years of age. i get DLA (middle rate care, lower rate mobility), severe disablement allowance (no new claimants for this benefit), income support (including a severe disability premium), housing benefit, council tax benefit, income support tracker mortage. The last four benefits (the premium not the income support itself) i got when i obtained my own place on this housing scheme www.advanceuk.org i only got on the housing scheme as my carer was above a certain age. i fitted one of those nice little boxes soical services likes to put us in! It applies to many places down south but isnt much further north than northampton. i only got the DLA because the NAS produced a booklet called " applying for benefits " . it states what you should put on the forms and how to word it. Also another good document for adults is " taking responsibility " which is available to download online and from the NAS. this report was done with a grant from the DOH! the report is nearly 8 years old but clearly states the gaps in services. The NAS is concentrating on improving adult services. Hopefulyl by the time the kids of parents on this list need the help (if they do) it will be less of a minefield. i am happy where i am. Now i am concentrating on further education. i am determined to find work even though i havent worked before. is (who enjoyed helping out at MENCAPs youth club very much this year)

It hasnt been easy. > > MENCAP Youth Club sounds great - well done. i was a member there for a while. Some of the staff were rude to me " you've got aspergers you dont belong here as you dont have learning disabilities " they used to say to me. > Good luck with further education and finding a job. Thanks. i am taking Maths and Biology AS levels. i am testing the guranteed interview scheme (my foot!) out. i reason that if a candidate has a Maths AS/A2 level then they wont have any excuses not to interview me. is > > Zoe
