Guest guest
Hi all - My name is . I was diagnosed whenI was 3 but never heard the word CMT until I was 18. I'm now 30 and doing pretty well all things considered. I've done the surgery thing (5 since 1995 - 3 major, 2 minor), toyed with the idea of AFOs (in the beginning - when I didn't know much), and shoe inserts thing. I'm in the process of getting new inserts now. Tedious. Recently my symptoms seem to be progressing somewhat after years of leveling off. Frustrating. Although I will admit that I'm doing a lot even for a " normal " person - working two jobs, working on a second degree. On a positive note, I'm recently married to a wonderful man - understanding, caring, sweet, all the wonderful things that every young woman dreams of.... I went through my doubts before I met him. Who would want to be with me - a disabled person??? I kept plugging along dating - lots of first dates, not many second or third ones. Then I met Matt in the fall 2001. He was the first date/boyfriend I ever had that when I said Hey, I'm disabled I can't do that as quickly as you might want. (getting up to answer his phone call at the end of the day - phone was across the room) He said I don't care that you're disabled. Sweeter words were never spoken to me..... Well now that I've bored everyone with parts of my story... I just want to say how great it is/going to be to have a group of people to talk to that can relate to the difficulties with the day to day things. Thanks for listening.
