Don't wait that long. Go to the ER if you can't get in to see your Doctor.

Don't wait. You need to breathe, nothing else matters more than that. I

know, I have difficulties too and I know what it is like when you can't

breathe. Get there today, please. Sincerely, Colletti

, Breathing problems are considered emergencies and are not scheduled

as a routine visit. Your rheumy should get you in TODAY. Did you explain to

them that you are having trouble breathing? If your rheumy won¹t see you,

maybe a trip to ER is necessary to find out what is going on. Have you had

a cold or respiratory infection of some kind?

I'm not sure what sort of breathing problems you are having, , but

I hope you will listen to the others who told you not to wait. April

21st is way too long!

BTW, have you had your eye appointment yet? Thought I forgot, didn't

you?

So glad you went and got checked. You can¹t be to careful when it comes to

your lungs.

I wish you had gotten answers but at least they are investigating it. Hope

all is well with you.

Hi Donna,

Lovely to hear from you again. The builders have just started work on our house

and they expect to be here for appx 3 months so you can appreciate how stressed

I am.

I am currently seeing a speech therapist at St ', she is helping me with

breathing techniques as I tend to panic at night when I wake and cannot get my

breath. I have been diagnosed with bi-lateral vocal cord paralysis which

explains the difficulties I have been experiencing.

Last Thursday I went to see an ENT doctor and asked if it can deteriorate any

more and was informed ' it's as bad as it can get' (what a nice birthday present

that was!). He has discussed surgery on my vocal cords but that will affect my

voice and they cannot say how much and it could also lead to me choking as the

food could then go down the wrong tube. We also discussed a tracheoctomy but as

you can imagine it is not the route I want to go down at my age.

After lots of tears and sleepless nights I have decided to continue as I am but

have asked if I can try a breathing machine to help me at night. The speech

therapist did not think that this is possible but the ENT doc didn't see a

problem so I am waiting to see Dr Hart in December unless I can get an earlier

appt.

I have been told that I should carry a letter with me at all times as this

condition can be life threatening. As the cords are so close together and do not

move apart to allow me to breathe the speech therapist feels I should take

extreme care to avoid catching a cold as this would obviously cause problems. I

phoned my doctor to ask for a flu jab and was told I will have to wait until end

of Nov and I may have to pay for it!

I asked my neurologist to refer me to see but I am still waiting to hear

from him. Will let you know when I hear.

Take care Donna,

from miserable and cloudy Kent

I just took these tests at the pulmonary clinic, BSA 1.73, The FVC,

FEV1,FEV1/FVC ratio and FEF25 IS 75% REDUCED indicating airway

obstruction. The inspiratory flow rates are reduced. The MVV is

reduced. The FVC is reduced relative to the SVC indicating air

trapping. The total lung capacity is increased indicating overinflation.

Conclusions: Severe airway obsrtuction, overinflation.

Severe Obstructive Airways Disease

I believe mine were over the muscle I had them 20 years, But I was lied

to as to the type so I am not positive.

What is a spirometer? . . .One of those red-light things they put on your finger during surgery? I have tables that determine what your oxygen levels should be based on your age and sex. I especially want the numbers from those of you who have

implants under your pec muscles. Thanks.

Hi,

My chest feels tight, my heart flutters some times and I find that I

get short of breath even when sitting down, it may seem silly but I am

more concious of my breathing these day where as before I never gave it

a thought I never noticed. I thought I may be comming

down with a chest infection but I have now been feeling like this for

months. Do you think that it may be part of CMT or may it be asthma.

Regards

Yes, breathing problems can be CMT related. Look in our Files section

under 'Breathing', also search our Archives for the many past posts on

this subject. Research has shown that CMT can cause heart problems can

be too.

Ditto, to Kay's comments.  I too have breathing problems and heart

flutters.

Tammy - I also get the same throat tightness that you describe, primarily when

overdoing things, but stress too.  Went to the ER the first time, before I

understood it was CMT and I just needed to rest.  Muscles get too tired and it's

much harder to get air.  Also, I had a CMT family member who had a piece of food

get stuck in his throat when traveling.  He went to ER.  Took muscle relaxants,

everything loosened up and the food passed.  So...it sounds like what you are

experiencing is definitely CMT related and common with many of us.  You

undertook a very stressful event.  It's certainly understandable that your

muscles reacted.  You may want to keep muscle relaxants with you, especially

when you travel.  And...congratulations on your new addition!!!
