Guest guest
Hi, My name is Tonya. I was diagnosed with CMT when I was pregnant with my second child - 15 years ago. I would say I have a very mild case, but have noticed quite a bit of loss of functionality in my hands over the past year or two. I also have carpal tunnel syndrome. Due to the CMT, surgery isn't recommended by my neurologist, but I've found orthotic 'gloves' that work great for relieving the pain and numbness associated with the CTS. Amazingly, I've noticed an increase in sensation since wearing the 'gloves', esp. in my left hand (the good hand). My Dad and two sisters both have CMT - one of my sisters invited me to join this group. I believe two of my daughters also have CMT - one is 19 - very, very mild case - the other is 14 and has a more severe case than her older sister. (Not much fun telling a 14 year old teenage girl that she really, really shouldn't wear high heels.) At this point, my 13 year old isn't exhibiting any symptoms at all, so I'm hopeful that she didn't inherit the disease. I look forward to being a part of this group. Thank you.
