Guest guest
Hi !Great review, as usual! I only did this one once and I don't remember much of it. An option for the cardio, which I may try next time is to do it w/out a step. If I recall correctly, I think there was a modifier who showed the cardio w/out a step. Of course, I could be dreaming. Enjoy your evening!Donna Subject: Get Ripped 1000To: exercisevideos Date: Friday, August 1, 2008, 4:27 PM Did this one this just now and have to say it is not my favorite Jari Love so far (probably Slim & Lean is with Ripped to the Core a close 2nd). It was very challenging but as much as I like interval workouts and compound strength moves this just didn't thrill me. I did all the cardio with the high impact/high intensity option and used 1 set of risers under my step (6" step) and I found myself getting really tired about half way through. I took some longer breaks than she gave to get my heart rate into a more moderate zone after some of the cardio segments especially. I probably should have gone down to no risers but felt like that would be giving up (so that part is my problem, not hers). The cardio segments were very simple, however, she seemed to have taken a page from Austin's book on telepathic cueing because she didn't say what you were going to do often, just "Let's go!" The screen pops up with CARDIO! and then there is Jari, sometimes with the step turned a different way than it just was, saying "Let's go!" Go where? Do what? Huh? Same thing with the strength moves. There's always the preview before the exercise, however, they weren't nearly as well done as in her other workouts and didn't give me enough information for some of the moves that were new to me (especially the compound exercises). Jari did not give nearly as many cues or tips either about how to do the movements and I found that very frustrating for some of them. The "clean & press/squat & press" with the dumbbells was confusing, though I think I got it mostly towards the end (maybe) and the "tricep extension with leg abduction/single leg squat" done on the step was a little much. I tried it off the step and that wasn't much better. My triceps got practically nothing because I was trying to remember what to do with my leg and when to squat and all I can say is ugh. I'm sure that with practice both those frustrations will be eliminated and if I do this without risers I won't get as tired and can probably enjoy it all more because of that. However, I don't like doing strength moves that require me to rewind or do a video a few times before I've got the muscle memory for the movement. That seems overly complicated to me. (I don't like cardio workouts like that much either but I expect that to happen with most cardio workouts and don't with strength workouts. I had an easier time with the cardio moves than some of the strength moves on this one!) My only other complaint is that equipment changes, including changing the position of the step seemed to happen really fast and I needed to hit pause more often than I wanted to. On the positive side, I thought the abs work in this one was tougher than any of her other workouts (not super tough but gave me a bit of a burn at least, seemed too short though). If you add risers you'll really get a tough cardio workout (1 set was plenty for me). She also has a "pushup party" where you do 70 pushups starting with a set of 16, then a quick stretch, then 14, stretch, 12, stretch down to about 6 I think. I was able to do 68 of them, all on my knees. I probably could have done the other 2 had I known she was going to keep decreasing the number in each set (I skipped 2 in the 2nd set because I didn't think I'd be able to do them or any others). I thought this was kind of a cool approach and I liked the challenge a lot. The music seemed pretty good. Another odd thing that some might find positive is that they rotated who showed the modifications throughout the video. I found it a bit confusing the first time through but it will be fine next time because I'll know to expect it. I only burned 347 calories. I was hoping for at least 400 or 500 (and was not even thinking about getting anywhere near 1000. Maybe if I hit pause less often I'll burn more next time. Doesn't really matter that much though. I matched Jari for weights and probably could have gone heavier a few times. I definitely feel the workout and felt really worked, just felt more tired and frustrated than exhilarated though so while I'd like to include this in the Ripped rotation, I don't know that I want to do it a lot. Tomorrow DH & DS leave for Webelos II Adventure camp (Cub Scouts) for 3 days/2 nights. DD and I are planning to do Kari Go: Step for Beginners together which means she'll last 5 minutes tops and then I'll clear away the small step and do my own thing. She wants me to teach her though so I'll at least try. We're also planning to have craft nights this year (we usually do movies or paint our nails and stuff but she has some craft kits from Christmas and her birthday we haven't used yet so that's what we're doing instead). I'm also planning on her being in bed by 8 or 8:30 and then watching some fitness videos with no one around! ;-)
Guest guest
i don't do this one often probably b/c of the cardio. i hate having to pause to reset up my step. i have a small space. if i had more space i would just walk to the other side of the step. i keep her workouts but not sure why i am not crazy about her and the dark settings but the routines are pretty solid.kassia
Guest guest
Thanks Donna! You are correct, there is always at least one person doing the cardio (and strength moves for which others are using the step) on the floor! Guest guest
I eventually was doing exactly what you say, walking around the step when I could. For some moves I had to turn it because of lack of room. I feel the same way too. I get a lot out of the workouts even if I don't have a great deal of "fun" doing them with her. Guest guest
, I've done this workout just once. I do like how she does the cardio sections, but her cueing isn't so great. The one thing that Jari has done in all the workouts I have is when you're stretching if you aren't looking at the TV you don't know when she changes sides because she doesn't say. That just annoys the crap out of me. I didn't get a change to do R1000 yet, but I think I'm going to sub it for a workout in the August rotation just I can say I did all the ones I have from her. ~**~Looking for a car that's sporty, fun and fits in your budget? Guest guest
Yep, I hear ya on the stretching thing. She either changes sides without saying or changes something else up and you're like, huh, what now?! I like her workouts a lot but sometimes I don't... I am sore this morning though in all the right places (especially my chest) so that's good. Will look forward to hearing from you when you do it again!
