Guest guest
With my family history, I believe I have GRA, possibly Familial Type I.There is strong genetics for tumors, aneurysms (mostly in males) I'm aware of 1 female aunt who died before age 20 with what was thought brain tumor (she died in the 1930's I think), she had massive headaches. Also several died of stroke as did my grandmother who was about killed on digitalisLow K and dig are deadly. and very intolerant of medication just like I am. Resistant hypertension predominant in family and am finding more and more second and third generation having tumors particularly women with the thyroid and tumors bulging from top of the skin. One aunt who finally died after having several cancer including bone marrow cancer. I had one uncle who went to many doctors and professional centers trying to get help and he shot and killed himself around the age of 70. I have one first cousin in his 50's had his aorta replaced. An 86 year old uncle currently living with aneurysm in his stomach. My mom's family is a large family of 11 brothers and sisters. Some were alcoholics also. When I say alcohol, I'm talking pure made in the woods stuff. The ones that were not, lived right, and they are the ones with the most health problems, mostly hypertension, water retention issues. On an interesting note, I asked my mom about what they ate when they were growing up. Her family was somewhat well to do back then, owning 400 acres of land, growing cotton with hired hands called sharecroppers that lived on the land. They mostly ate pork as she recalls. Mother said since they didn't raise cows they ate what they had so they had a curing house where they hung their pigs up for their meat. They also had chickens (free range) back then for sure. They also had persimmons trees and apple trees from which they made pies, etc. Had fresh milk, butter and cheese from a few select cattle. They rode into town on mules and sold their cheese, milk and butter and such.My first cousins daughter recently had a pituitary tumor removed. This also on the maternal side. If PA, then Stage 3.I told doctor Kramer a good bit of this.Hopefully next week we will know the score.Charlotte Zahnd> > > >> > >> > >> Since stopping the triameterne HGC on June 24, my numbers are changing> >> for the better.> >> > >> Adolsterone was 60.9 on June 8, on July 6 it is now 13.8> >> > >> Renin activity was 2.29 on March 23, July 6 ot os now <o.15> >> > >> Potassium was 3.4 on June 15 July 6 now 3.8> >> BUN was 33 on June 15 July 6 now 21> >> Creatnine was 2.5 on June 15, July 6 now 1.7> >> Total protein was 6.8 on June 15, July 6 now 6.0> >> > >> Even my glucose is down from 101 to 85> >> > >> This afternoon I am meeting with my thryoid specialist to go over the> >> numbers and come up with a plan of action for the next few months.> >> > >> In the event (and I know this is going to be true) that my renal> >> numbers go back into the normal range, how hard a fight am I going to> >> have with the nephrologist to get his diagnosis of stage four kidney> >> failure removed from my records. Guest guest
excellent family Hx. Go to the NIH site and put it in and print it out and take to Dr. K.The site is under item 5 below. Save it and get as much more family Hx as you can. GRA is very rare but I have reported on 2 families.if you have GRA then 50% of your blood relatives will have it as well.CE Grim MD Welcome1. Read my article in our files on the evolution of PA (Evolution_of_PA-Grim.pdf ) and take to all members of health care team. Tell us what stage you believe you are in.2. Read our Conn's stories files and then give us your own in as much detail as you can. To see others' stories, on the Hyperaldosteronism home page, go to Files/Conns Stories. You'll find instructions in "A - How to put your story here.doc " 3. Get the DASH diet book by T. et al, read it and use it. $8 in paperback at your local bookstore.or go to http://www.nhlbi.nih.gov/health/public/heart/hbp/dash/new_dash.pdfdownload this 64 page booklet free and do the Week on the DASH Diet for 2 weeks. If you are on BP meds be prepared for a large fall in BP and let your Dr. know you are doing this.4. Measure your BP daily so you can see if it is getting better. If you are taking meds be sure to tell your health care team you are doing this as your BP may plummet to normal quickly.5. Go to familyhistory.hhs.gov and do your detailed family medical history so we can review with you to help Dx familial causes of high blood pressure and heart disease. If BP runs in your family you may save others in your family by checking their BP yourself.6. Go to our file/Conn's Articles of Note/Medications/Bravo spir 1973.pdf and read this article and take to your health care team.7. If you have been Dxed with PA already and are on Rx or have had surgery please go to http://www.kwiksurveys.com/online-survey.php?surveyID=HIJIO_f2685379 and complete our survey with as much information as you know. If there is some information you don'k know ask us and we will help. If you need to update this as you journey thru the diagnostic/treatment process you can add another entry but label it as Nameyymmdd. For example today 6/12/09 for me would be Grim090612. This ever increasing number will allow us and you to sort your multiple entries into a dated order. 8. If you are new to medical lingo then download the acroyms from http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/bloodpressureline/message/291869.
