Dear colleagues, This is the first edition of the new digital ACAnews magazine go to the bottom of the page and click on the arrow button “Read the May 2012 Issue Today then go to page 8 our Oregon story is on the bottom of the page! We did good doctors all eyes are on Oregon yet again with the passage of Senate Bills 1580 and 1509 this last legislative session. Governor Kitzhaber inserted our non-discrimination language into his bill and this was further improved on by Rep. Jim and we had huge bipartisan support for our non-discrimination language. The OCA strategically led the charge at our state capitol forming a very key and powerful CAM coalition of providers which included chiropractic and naturopathic physicians, optometrists, licensed acupuncturists, licensed massage therapists, and nurse practitioners. The next battle will be the writing of the CCO administrative rules with the first meeting of the rules advisory committee meeting this Thursday the devil as they say can be in the details and this is where the enemy has a chance to attack once more. However as usual the OCA is all over it and we have strategically push and gotten a seat at the table. Under this new system of delivering health care to Medicaid (the poor) and Medicaid (the elderly) chiropractic physicians will be paid for all their covered services and equal to medicine or even more if we perform better and provide better outcomes to our patient base. If the system works well it will then be applied to all state workers and school districts….yes we will be paid for our exams, x-rays, therapies, blood work…etc. not just for an adjustment…..the eyes of our nation are on Oregon once again and you have your state association to thank, the Oregon Chiropractic Association continues to look out for you!!! Doctor are you a member? Are you helping? Have you added your shoulder to that great stone wheel your colleagues have been pushing up that mountain side which leads to that “level playing field” for us all.
