(OT) buying items in the US

I've bought some clothes from the same eBay seller. Does anyone know,

please, whether I should have the items sent separately in the hope

that a low value package may get throught without anyone bothering with

the excise and VAT (it has happened to me before) or should I lump

everything together to save postage, in the knowledge I shall

definitely get hit with all the duty and tax? (12 1/2% excise on the

price including postage, then 17 1/2% VAT on the grossed up sum

including the excise!)

Have the seller mark the

item as a gift, worth about $10.00. I've done this with a

number of

things, including e-bay items. I have not had a problem yet.
