Back in the day, we had several sticks over the years, some with live, fulminate

full blown aids, stuck with ABG needles, no one ever sero-converted...no

one.....and there were no anti-virals back then...so please breathe a little

easier.....we'll be rooting for you....HIV is VERY wimpy - it dies very

quickly....thank God.....

BFL temporarily on hold.

This would have been week 5 wrap for me but I think I'm going to need

to take a week off.

I was stuck by a contaminated needle at work yesterday (I work in a

prison) and have to go on some very strong antivirals as HIV

prophylaxis (and am on pins & needles waiting for the results of the

source testing -- which the inmate doesn't have to consent to -- it's

not mandatory in my state).

I'm quite sick. I have anti-nausea medication to take that makes me

really sleepy. So I'll continue to eat well but working out will

probably be out of the question for me until this course of antivirals

is over.

I'll still be reading your progress with interest and hopefully I'll

be back on track once this is all over.

Thanks, . I know everyone was telling me I should be much more concerned

about hepatitis but of course I had the Hep B vaccine back in nursing school.

But prison is different --- so much disease, so many high-risk behaviors, I

couldn't help but freak out a little.

Thanks for your kind words,

R.

No, because testing isn't mandatory. An inmate has to give written consent to be

HIV tested. If they refuse the testing can't be done. So they can say that this

inmate isn't being treated for anything infectious but that doesn't mean he

doesn't have anything infectious, if that makes sense.

Its funny, because I've had patients assume we were all tested for HIV - and I

always say, no way, not until you all are tested first!?? Even Hep B -which used

to infect us by the thousands, I think the numbers is slashed due to the

vaccine....but yeah, a prison - the crispy critters that they are growing don't

even have names yet, do they ???Ugh, and these are the folks who

reproduce too.....Big hugs, you're a true hero.
