Are they the same thing?  I want to try coconut butter b/c it sounds yummy but

all I could find was coconut oil but it was white and in a jar and looked like

it could be called coconut butter.  If they're not the same thing, what brand

are you using?

Thanks,

I've seen it typed as coconut " oil/butter " like it's two words for the same

thing. Never tried it though.

Organic Coconut Oil is touted as a healthy fat for cooking at high temps.  I

just started using it, it is amazing to cook - popcorn, bake with, do roasted

veggies/sweet potatoes.

Adds a sweetness while cooking.

I can definitely offer a thumbs-up on coconut milk ice cream. I can't

remember the brand now, the one that's not Coconut Bliss. But there is

another one that's a chocolate coconut ice cream with a peanut butter fudge

swirl. It rocks. Purely Decadent? So Delicious? It's one of those. If you're

going to go on a free day bender, coconut milk ice cream with all of its

health benefits has to be a better bet than saturated dairy fat.

I've used coconut oil,it is pretty good. It is usually solid white and then

clear liquid. It has a low melting point so in summer might be liquid in the

jar.

,

Stop it!!! It's barely 7:30 am and you have me thinking about ice cream!! LOL

I don't recall seeing coconut ice cream here at all. But, speaking of coconuts,

I have to chip in and mention that for years I suffered from very dry skin on my

legs (especially lower shins) in winter and I literally went from one body

lotion to another and nothing made a difference - until I tried the Coconut Body

Butter from the Body Shop. Unbelievable how that one works. It is pricey (Can$22

per 6.9 oz container) but so worth it. I had cracked skin on one elbow and the

Coconut Body Butter took care of it in a few days.

Is it oily like a olive oil or is it white and thick?  I want to get it like to

spread on toast or to make (confession) frosting out of lol.  I just don't want

to buy the wrong thing.

So I wonder if it's the same stuff?  I'm too impatient to order it online but

don't want to go all the way to Whole Foods and the closest health food store

sells coconut oil but it is jarred and looks the same as almond butter does only

white.  I might just get it anyway, I can still cook with it even if it's not

" butter " .

I just read that butter/oil are the exact same thing. In cold countries it's

called coconut butter because it's solid in colder climates and can be used

in cubes or chunks. In tropical countries it's called coconut oil and sold

in bottles because it melts and becomes liquid in the heat. So, I guess if

you want something solid you can spread, just keep it in the refrigerator.

It doesn't sound at all appealing to me on toast. Kinda like eating Hawaiian

Tropic suntan lotion. LOL So, if you buy it and eat it, let me know. I'm

making a skeptical face. LOL

I put it in some hot cocoa for a while and drank it daily. It was fine. I

don't know about buttering toast with it, but on the other hand, butter is

all fat and I like that spread on toast! LOL! It has a pleasant taste...if

you like coconut.

When I started my vegan experiment, I couldn't make garlic bread with butter

anymore. So, I made it with olive oil. WOW! Bread and olive oil are perfect

for each other.

And I'll quit talking about bread and ice cream and stuff now before

somebody punches me in the neck. ;-)

Mmmmm, vegetables...

I am curious...Does it make your food taste like coconut?  What does it do to

your skin?

makes it taste like coconut. ;)

actually, its very good for skin and hair and is used in lotions and the

like. You can also just put the straight oil on your hair (tiny amts) or

skin.

I read somewhere you can make frosting out of it by adding agave nectar, sugar,

or sugar substitute to it.  I immediately thought of drowning pinapple rings in

it or blending pinapple chunks, coconut water/milk and coconut butter and make a

pina colada smoothie with it.

(bathing in it or greasing my hair with it sounds a bit extreme though - coconut

maniacs! lol! )

I started my skin experiment three nights ago. My face was already kind

of broken-out from " that time of the month " , so I figured it couldn't

make things any worse!

For two evenings in a row, I rubbed the coconut oil into the skin on the

left side of my face only, then washed it off with my regular complexion

bar in the morning. It didn't miraculously clear up my skin, but it

didn't make it worse either, so last night (the third night) I put it on

my entire face.

It's a definite improvement. I have fairly large pores, particularly on

my nose, but my pores are noticeably less noticeable. It's rather early

to declare thumbs up or down; we'll see how I look in a week or two.

I did this same experiment last year with olive oil, and the olive oil

felt so greasy and disgusting I couldn't stand to leave it on all night.

In contrast, the coconut oil sort of melts into the skin and doesn't

feel gross.

As for the food...no, it does not taste like coconut. It does have a

distinctive taste, but it's very subtle, maybe a nutty kind of flavor.
