Wow, you are in some dire, DIRE need of protein. Out of all the meals you

had, the one with turkey was the only one not carb-heavy and woefully

underpowered. No wonder you're starving! If you're not big on meat, here's a

week of BFL vegetarian meals with enough protein.

Too funny about your husband getting you BFL Women and keeping the good one

Protein for me will have to come from soy milk, nuts, LF cheese, and

beans/peas. I can't do a lot of meat and get very sick of tuna very

quickly :)

I read the original BFL several years ago. I seem to recall that the

diet was impossible for me to follow (but like a say... several years

ago so my memory could be failing :)

Will check out the veggie meals. Thanks, Dana

Dana,

Looks like you could use a lot more protein in your diet. Protein

will keep you satisfied longer. I didn't see anything about your

water intake. Make sure you get plenty of water it helps fill you

up. Eat more for breakfast! A cup of cereal and coffee isn't

enough. This is a typical day for me:

Meal 1: 1/2 cup oatmeal with 1/4 cup blueberries, 1/2 cup egg

beaters scrambled, coffee

Meal 2: 8oz protein shake or 4 slices of low fat deli meat

Meal 3: 1 piece whole wheat bread with 4oz of lean meat and a slice

of low or fat free cheese.

Meal 4: 1/2 cup low or fat free cottage with no sugar added pineapple

Meal 5: Huge salad with chicken breast or chicken breast broiled

with broccoli and baked potato

Meal 6: fat free yoplait

Lots and lots of water!

> Wow, you are in some dire, DIRE need of protein.

I second that and what another poster said about protein having the

most satiating effect on the appetite. Again refering the the tv show

I have been watching on the Discovery Channel called 'The Facts About

Food' (narrated by Dr Oz)- they did a challenge test btwn three guys

and fed them similar meals- one higher in fat(pasta alfredo), one

higher in protein (small plain pasta with chicken), and one higher in

carbs(all plain pasta) and the one who wasnt hungry later when

tempted with a snack was the one who ate the chicken/pasta!

Good show - see if you can find it in your tv listings:

http://health.discovery.com/convergence/truth/truth.html

Also you mentioned soy milk - if you dont want to go whey, try some

quality soy protein powder to some smoothies with it (or even add it

to the milk to up its protein grams), or even try some hemp protein

powder for variety: http://tinyurl.com/v63vd

Welcome !

Please read Dr. Mehta's article, "Growth as a corrective force . . " It's posted here and also I think at the website www.infantilescoliosis.org. There is a DVD available also. The closest docs (that I know of) to Oklahoma are in Denver, San , Texas, and Chicago.

Hi -- I am new to the group and have a few questions. My son is 4 andhas a minor bend in his spine at the top -- instead of going straightit curves to one side but not front to back. It makes him twist a bitwhen he moves and one shoulder is higher. At this point his doctorthinks he could out grow it or that it will stay the same. We havebeen watching it for a year. I don't necessarily feel confident in ourdoctor. What information do you recommend I read? How can I learn moreabout casts? And are there any doctors in Oklahoma (preferably Tulsa)that anyone recommends? I am very underinformed at this point. Thankyou for your help.--

Hi and welcome to the group. I would suggest reading some of the articles in the FILE section, particularly the one Shellie suggested, "Growth as a Corrective Force". And request the DVD from . At what degree was your son's curve measured. Also in the database section is a list of Mehta trained docs.My son is treated at Texas ish Rite Hospital in Dallas, Texas. Although they are not "Mehta trained" we have had GREAT success. Please feel free to ask us any and all questions. We will try to help you the best we can in regards to our personal experiences through treatment for our children.Again welcome.......glad you found us!TashaMommy of twin boys- and 3 years oldFort Worth, Texas is currently in a brace-8 degrees out of brace!!!brunnercommunications wrote: Hi -- I am new to the group and have a few questions. Hi , Welcome to the group... You will get help and support here. I agree that you should seek a second opinion.... I don't live anywhwere near you, but I think if you go to the ISOP website, there is a list of all the doctors and you can choose one that is closest to you.... You may have to travel a bit. Most of us do. I would recommend that you send your son's x-rays to one of the doctors on our list and call the care coordinator, as well, to start the process. The docs will look at your son's x-ray and call you with their input. There is no charge for them to do that. I'm sure other moms more familiar with your area will tell you who they use, etc. Good luck! Steph brunnercommunications wrote: Hi -- I am new to the group and have a few questions. Hi ,

I'm also new at this and my son is 51/2 yo with a 12-13 degree curve. My doctor's approach was to wait and watch. When I went to see my pediatrician, and saw that he was visibly concerned about the change and increase I decided it was time to research and I found this group.

I would recommend printing off the resources list the Growth as a corrective force in the early treatment of progressive infantile scolisosis article. Also, order the DVD that explains the technique of casting and the whole approach which stresses that watching is not treatment which totally got to me. Next, there is a listing on the ISOP website of doctors and you can find the one nearest you. Also, its a good idea to get all of your medical records and x-rays from your orthopaed office so you can have a file. I just did that Fri and found out my son had a S curve from reading the MRI report and had never been informed of this. Anyway hope this helps!

Hi , My name is Hansen. My daughter Lily has been

treated in SLC for almost three years now. We are from just outside

Oklahoma City. Back three years ago I could never find a doctor in

Oklahoma that I felt could make the right decisions for my daughter.

We are going back to SLC in May for what I hope is our last visit for

awhile. I would suggest checking out a Metha trained doctor

somewhere. I go to SLC because my in-laws live there. Denver might

be the closest for you. If you have anymore questions please email

back and I can try and help. Good luck and keep us updated. I found

that get several opinions helped us the most!

, My doc said the same to me when I told him that my daughter shape looked strange! Just call the hospital that you are sending the x-rays to and speak with the care coordinator to let him/her know that they are on the way. You need an extra large envelope to mail the x-rays in if you don't already have one..... You can get them in Office Depot or Staples. Then I usually include a short letter with my questions/concerns/ and contact info. and mail it off. I have overnighted x-rays, which cost me about $16 and then I've done 2 day priority, which was only about $5. Usually, you'll get a call from the care coordinator within a few days with the answers to your questions and what the doc thinks, etc. If more than a week goes by, then I would call them again. Hope that helped! Steph Brunner wrote: Thank you everyone for your replys! I am just now printing off and reading the articles from the website. And I will work on getting our xrays together. We have a lot of other combined health issues in our family and so I think the scoliosis was overlooked. Now of course I am feeling dismay because when he was about 5-6 months old I told the doctor he looked crooked -- his head shape and his back and I was told not to worry, time would take care of it. Tell me more about how to have our xrays reviewed by the doctors -- what do I need to do? That is truly amazing!

Welcome, from another Cara (who spells it the right way - no offense to anyone

named Kara ) I'm kind of " starting again " myself. I have been really working out

for a year and a half and lost quite a bit of fat at the beginning. I was eating

clean, for the most part, and the extra " cheating " didn't make a difference - in

the beginning. But eventually my body adjusted and now I have to commit to

really controlling my nutrition.

Good luck to both of us.

Hi,

I'm new to this group. It's nice to find a group of people who've experienced the strange symptoms I have!

My doctor diagnosed me with hyperaldosteronism last week. I will tell my story another time. I will be getting the results of my MRI, on my adrenals, this week. It's been almost two years since I had a bad reaction to salt, fluid retention unable to pee, muscle and nerve spasms, sweating reduced by about

70-85 % and well, it's a long list.

Thought it might be important to mention, my aldosterone levels came back normal over a year. I was on a low sodium diet when my endo ran some tests, about 0-250mg of sodium a day. Only once I stopped taking birth control pills, Loestrin 24, my aldosterone test results came back high, K on the low end, but not out of range. I'm still on a low sodium diet. Can't DASH. The liquid in fruits and vegetables makes me swell and then I can't pee much. Oh, aldosterone range was 28 or lower for 8-10AM, mine was 63 around 2 months ago. I had another plasma aldosterone test done, was taken 4-6PM so the range changes, 21 or lower, mine was 78. I'm only in my mid-20's. I read somewhere online that estrogen and progesterone can interfere with this test.

Aloha Leighanne! I am a recent member to the Natural Perfumery Group as well.

Welcome to this wonderful group of kindred spirits who through some form or

another became interested in the exciting world of natural perfumery using

botanical extracts and natural ingredients which uncovers and opens a whole new

experience (and at the same time is a very ancient art) to what really makes

perfume so seductive...

Anya's website has four fantastic articles to download which in my humble

opinion belong in all of our " baskets "   to fill with knowledge we can use...

go to anyasgarden.com and in the middle of the page is a pic of the Legendary

Perfumer Edmond Roudnitska  and Articles available for download from Anya's

Can you give us 's story in as much detail as you can.Do you get up at night to pee? How often?Do you eat licorice every day?Give us your renin and aldo numbers.CE Grim MDHello, After reading some of the posts I feel a little better. I started having problems about 3yrs ago. I went to the ER with chest pains and shortness of breath. All they found was a low K. I had all the work-ups for heart problems and all was normal. My doctor said it was panic attacks and I would have to learn to live with them. Now it is 3yrs later and at least 5 more visits to the ER and always they test for heart ONLY, tell me I am fine and send me home. I am about to go crazy. I have possible esophageal spasms, palpatations, extreme fatigue, moderately high blood pressure at times. I feel like I get jolts of electricity through my body (thats the best way I can discribe it) and I have many sleepless nights. When I try to go to sleep I feel bad muscle spasms across my chest and abdomen.I had a goiter in my 30's, so my doc blames some of my problems on thyroid imblances. I know it is not panic disorder (although it does make me panic at times). Could someone please help me to help my new doctor run some test and possibly evaluate my situation better. Thank you for responding.

The test that I have had run are: Cardiac test all normal, endoscopy: GERD and possible esophageal spasms (not confirm with manometry). And low K on 2 visit to the ER (2.9).

I have extreme fatigue, muscle spasms (mostly in chest), extreme thrist and urination. I pee 2-3 times through the night. I have high aniexty and take xanax (as needed) but do not take it daily. Also, feel dizzy and disoriented at times and like I said the vibrations through my body (more noticable at night).

I am currently taking meds for my thyroid, protonix, estrogen/prog.

I am a 56 yr old female. I do not eat licorice. I haven't renin or aldo test run.

Thank you again,

I use a small pat of butter, or jam.

For sandwiches or bread you can use any healthy spread you want if you go

easy on it - peanut butter, olive oil, butter spray, heart healthy spread,

light mayo. Personally, I prefer to use a tiny bit of the real thing rather

than fat free fake stuff but I know plenty of people prefer light

everything. On BFL you can use condiments like salad dressing, barbecue

sauce, jam, ketchup, mustard, margarine. Just check labels. Make sure you're

being smart about it and not absentmindedly adding hundreds of extra

calories to each meal. :-)

Bananas are big and calorie/carb dense fruits. They're probably not a top

recommendation for that reason but you can certainly eat them. The

authorized foods list is a starting point. You can't go wrong following it

strictly but you can also be very successful allowing some flexibility. No

" unauthorized " fruit or vegetable will harm your progress. They're all

pretty awesome!

Congrats on getting started.
