Guest guest
Hi , I was wondering that as well in general about costus root, tonka beans and so on. Maybe we could get a little feedback how others store their raw materials. Are you tincturing them in alcohol or macerating-infusing in oil? My batch of ambrette in oil is quite weak and was wondering if I needed to crush more of a % of the seeds. If you or others have any tips it would be much appreciated. -Kait

I bought the SCO2 from Liberty naturals. I was told by Will at Eden Botanicals that it should last at least a year and by putting a drop of vitamin E oil in a blend it could help to keep it from going rancid. Would that work in jojoba as well as alcohol? Kait are you in the US? Thanks much, Stefanie
Guest guest
Will... (Sigh) how cool. Yes, I'm in the US. I use Vitamin e and I tiny bit of 190 proof in my blends. I think you can use jojoba. I use fractionated coconut oil for the shelf life. For some reason I am the one person in the world that jojoba doesn't like my skin. Thank you for writing back, ~K
Guest guest
Dara, Great advice! Thank you. Darn I knew I was being so impatient. I have plenty of seeds. Now how to keep them from flying everywhere. Oh yes! a grinder! I hope someone lets us in on a good grinder. -k P.s. I have a feeling I am replying wrong. Should I be posting at the top or here at the bottom? Deleting part of the post or not? Sorry if I am making a mess of the board!

I've owned a Mazzer Mini for the last 6 years and it's been a wonderful grinder. That being said, I only use it to grind coffee for the French press and espresso machine and wouldn't want to contaminate it with flavors from herbs/seeds. Also, you don't have to spend $600 (Mazzer Mini) to find a capable grinder; there are many burr grinders on the market that can easily handle the tasks you would use it for that are much less expensive. There are even manual burr grinders with a crank you turn that will do the job just fine. I haven't started tincturing yet, but when I want to start, I'll probably buy a manual burr grinder. I've roasted my own coffee for the last 7 years and I'm going to give a shout out here to one of my favorite businesses to buy green coffee from: Sweets.com They sell burr grinders on their site and they're awesome people to deal with.
