Guest guest
Buffy, I was 10 with high arches. Just walked up and down my doctor's halls. He also looked at the bottoms of my shoes, which I was wearing down on the sides from foot rolling. This was 1962, WAY before all the testing done now. Subsequently I had tendon surgery on both feet which has lasted very well all these years. I have never worn braces nor do I now. I do have a pes cavus right foot. My EMG results were also normal - the last one, in '99, was more in depth and showed some reinnervation, which suggests CMT Type 2, as opposed to Type 1. In the EMG tests, there is a 'range' of numbers for 'normal'. I also do not have any CMT evident in my family history. I can't tell you if your son has CMT or not - maybe next step after the EMG might be a DNA blood test. Sometimes because of muscle atrophy, bones will be pulled in the wrong way or too much stress will be placed on joints. I have always had a slight 2 " indentation in my peroneal muscle (front leg muscle) but do not have footdrop, I can wiggles my toes, feet and ankles fine. ~ Gretchen
Guest guest
Buffy, My heels curved in and I had surgery when I was 15 and 16 - 20 + years ago. I am not sure what they would do now to correct the problem. They cut my heels in half and repositioned them. I was in a cast for 2 months per foot. My right heel turned out great and my left is turning in again. I am going to an orthopedic in January to see what my options are. My left ankle turns when I step on small rock or stick. My podiatrist said I should have been in orthotics after my surgery but I did not get those until I was 29. Hope this helps. Vicky
