Guest guest
Opps, I may have these wrong as I don't have the actual lab results in front of me. They were a verbal from docs office. the results of 10.0 may have been the first draw. 9.3 the second and 7.3 the third. I don't know if just the aldosterone levels are an indicator of anything on their own but here they are.... 1st 7.3 normal 4.5-35.4 2nd 9.3 3rd 10.0 Does anyone know if these values alone mean anything? The renin levels are still pending. Thanks!
Guest guest
Your did not go down but increased during the saline ( if they are in correct order). You have PA type to be determined. Guest guest
Either way did not suppress much. Guest guest
I just got back from my 5 hour saline suppression test. What a crazy day! The endocrinologist that I see practices at a cancer center and I was in an infusion center that mainly administers chemo or blood for low iron as a result of chemo. No one had ever seen this test done. I had to have labs, wait two hours for results and then start. Took three hours to get started and then sat for five hours while they pumped 2500 mL of saline as well as 25 MEQ of K. During that time my urine output was 1700mL. Of course I had had about 12 oz of coffee and 12 oz of OJ right before my test and drank a 12 oz coke during the test. I know the quantity suggests PA, my question is though does the fact that I drank so much have anything to do with it?My sodium and K were in normal limits at the beginning. Will take 5 days to determine aldo levels, but will post when I find them. I am pretty sure what the results will be as I have had all 24 hour urine and AVS nearly 4 years ago.Anyway, been chugging low sodium V8 and grapefruit juice on the way home. I am up a few pounds I am sure due to the saline, but don't feel bad. Volmer40 yo WF, 5 kids, Marine wife, L nodule producing aldo, unable to sample R with AVS
Guest guest
Good report and good to get the urine volume which does suggest PA. However all of our tests are done in the fasting state with no fluids allowed during the study and the infusion is done from 8 am to noon. You will need to ask your local labs on what their standards are for this non-standard (in my protocol). Also we always gave only 2000 cc over 4 hours so study was done by noon. Anyway this is one reason I am for hire to work with you and your team to get all the testing done right.Keep us posted on the results.
