Guest guest
> > Can anyone tell me the difference (in terms of notes) between holy basil and plain basil? Hello! 'plain basil' - mine is a linalol chemotype - and also aged quite a bit by now -so i can only talk about this one... is strongly like anise - licorice. The one I have, no doubt due to its age has no fresh green basil-leaf top notes to it anymore. I'm sure it used to fill the room with its basily-freshness. I'd even say it's becoming a little powdery on the skin as it moves from top notes [what there are of them now] into middle note It may in fact, be 'past it'. tulsi basil - mine is also aged - is sweeter, more treacle-like and syrupy in its aroma, also with a dryish woody, slightly bitter note hiding in there somewhere, and a little spicey too. Hope this helps. Maybe others here can describe their fresh ones, or you can search online and see how some of the prefered suppliers describe the two.
