Firm Sculpting Stick & Fanny Lifter?

I got 3 new (to me) Firm videos from Sara (thanks Sara!) today and had a chance to watch one of them while I shredded paper in between work and VBS (maybe could have done a workout but only had 2 hours and kids to deal with so I didn't want to push my luck). Anyway, all 3 use the sculpting stick and I have to ask, WHY? What is the purpose of this thing? when it is standing end to end and they use it for balance I can almost see it (but I decided to just do some of the moves as I sat there and was fine doing all of them without a stick but if I need one I'll grab a broom) and I can see using it to add weight to your workout but why not just use dumbbells or another kind of bar that is more widely available? Is this just a gimmick? Also, at one point they unscrewed the end caps and used those as weights, I know the total bar weighs 9 lbs but how much are the little ones and again I ask, what is the point when there already are tools that work well? Am I being unnecessarily (and perhaps ignorantly) harsh? I can't remember the name of the video I was watching but it looked pretty challenging and I'm excited about trying it soon (using dumbbells instead of the sculpting stick I don't own and don't intend to buy).

Also, how high are the different parts of the fanny lifter and how high are they together? I'd like to try and approximate it with a stool or chair or something.

Thanks!
