I may be opening a huge can of worms here, but I am looking for

thoughts, recommendations, or any information you can give on

equipment. I am an athletic trainer small NAIA school, we are

building a weight room (approximately 3500 square feet). This will be

mainly used by football, but other sports will have access. We do not

have a strength coach, but I have a background in the area, but am not

an expert in facility use or design. So, my questions are:

1. Any equipment brand that should be avoided or strongly considered?

currently use Wynmor (now York).

2. We are mainly going for free weight equipment; any machines that

should be considered.

3. We will have about 40 athletes in the room at any time - any

equipment number recommendations?

Thanks in advance for any and all help, and sorry to have so many

questions.

Danny,

I am a high school football coach and we just got all

new equipment. Here is what I liked and did not like.

We also got all free weights and a couple of machines.

I would recomend getting 12 - 15 power racks. Make

sure they have and overhead bar and the bar on the

floor is raised slightly for band attachment. These

racks also make it great for organizing the athletes

and performing their lifts. Each rack should have a

bench and about 400 lbs. I like our bench can be used

for flat, decline, and incline and military. We got

the pro-elite multi rack and I wish we would of went

with the power rack but I do like the multi rack.

We also got the glute ham machine from them, I would

not recommend them. It wobbles and the padding is not

great. A buddy of mine is using another brand and

they are a lot better. I will find out the name if

you are interested. I also like the reverse hyper

that Louie promotes. I would also get

dumbbells at least two sets. I also would get a set

of average and mini bands from jump stretch. You can

simulate just about anything a machine can do with

these and they take up no space. I would get a set

for each rack. If you have any space left I would

also get a few lat pull down machines. I like the ones

we got from pro-elite. I hope this helps. I truly

believe when you train a group of athletes have racks

make it easy to organize and get a great workout in as

well.
