Guest guest
Hi Lovely to hear you are going so well after all you have gone through. I'm really happy for you. Carol (near Brisbane, Australia) Hey Dr G and All, I just wanted to let you know that following my recent visit to my Renal Physician (where I did my routine 24 hr urine and bloods), it appears my PHA is in total suppression. After AVS confirmation of adrenal hyperplasia in 2008 and PHA diagnosis, and then treatment with Spironolactone (and short term Inspra), my PHA is now fully suppressed, and I am currently on NO medications for BP. I have gone from BP swings of 160/90 to 210/125 to now daily readings of between 130/80 to 110/65. My Renal Physician said that she cannot explain how total suppression and complete removal of high BP has been achievable. She also is amazed that my blood cells hadn’t hardened to the point where I would require at least some form of BP medication. I am now to remain on three monthly tests for the next five years, and my Renal Physician said they particularly want to monitor me to see if they find out how this has occurred. I asked her if this means I am cured of PHA and she said she could not say that as the hyperplasia and my highly vascular adrenal glands (as she describes them) tend to lead her to think the active PHA will return. Some of my own observations about this horrendous ordeal of the last three years and possible reasons for dramatic improvement are that in the last twelve months we have sold our rather large home (which required a significant amount of physical work to maintain – even during periods when I was fatigued, suffered leg cramps and migraine/headaches) – we are now renting a small villa whilst we look to purchase a small home. I have lost 16 kilograms of weight and am now the lightest I have ever been in my adult life weighing in at 68 kilos. I am also doing a lot more exercise on a daily basis. My husband and I have had to make some tough life changing decisions about our future, decisions that my husband said had to be made as he did not want a future without me (I am one lucky woman as it was his dream home that we sold). So I think that the combination of all of the above actions has allowed for my positive result, and I am hoping that it stays this way. I was wondering Dr G if you know of many others who have achieved total suppression, and stayed that way? I hope my good luck story is one that many of you suffering this debilitating disease can also experience. Best wishes (Sydney – Australia)
