In the old days we used to say 95% was unknown and therefore labeled as "essential". Essential is Greek Dr. Talk for we don't know what the hell it is.In my analysis at least 50% is due to excess salt intake. Some due to excess alcohol, calories, lack of exercise. The problem is it is very difficult to change these habits so easier to take proven meds.PA may is likely 20%, renal artery stenosis maybe 1%.The big message is that if we know the cause then we can correct that and save lives. If we do not know the cause then we have good proof that taking BP meds is better than not taking them: live longer and with less heart and vascular disease.CE Grim MDDr Grim,They use the phrase "95% of HBP is of unknown cause". You have convinced me that 95% is of known cause. From: Clarence Grim <lowerbp2mac>To: hyperaldosteronism Cc: bloodpressureline Sent: Fri, March 26, 2010 12:24:23 PMSubject: [bloodpressureline] http://www.webmd.com/hypertension-high-blood-pressure/features/high-blood-pressure-aftermath?page=3 This site seems to be having a lot of BP news today. Also go to 1in3people.comand give me your feedback on this site by Norvartis Pharm.
