Guest guest
Carruthers cited research and opinions (much omitted): << " We are in an absolutely fascinating period in human evolution, " he said. Changes in diet had led to a height spurt over the past two centuries. " Now we are going outwards in terms of girth, " he said. In the mid-term, obesity drugs would be developed that would in turn have a major impact on health budgets, he said. " My problem is that they are trying to find a cure for normal physiology. " Obesity is not a disease - it is a normal biological response to the way we now live. And the drug companies are in this rather strange dilemma, if you like, of actually trying to find a cure for something that is not broken in the first place. " AND ----- OBESITY LABELED 'FASTEST GROWING HEALTH EPIDEMIC IN U.S, EUROPE' Obesity threatens to reverse gains in longevity ----- Any comments? >> Telle: I'm glad you asked--where's my soap box? First and foremost we were just presented with rigourous scientific evidence that longevity is at an all time high. Thus " Obesity threatens to reverse gains in longevity " This *must* be a scare tactic for drug sales promotion!;-}} Some ignoramus wrote: " And the drug companies are in this rather strange dilemma, if you like, of actually trying to find a cure for something that is not broken in the first place. " Not broke? -- Rampant obesity is breaking much! Hearts, self concepts, health, health care funds, blah, blah, blah. Then again maybe I'm the ignoramus and thats the point? Drugs are never going to cure this problem. People usually aren't obese because of some " out of whack' hormone, gene or lack of exercise. They're fat because food is a band aid for their miserable (and hopefully ignorant) existences. Whatever drug companies produce will only be countered by ingenious, different, gluttonous strategies! Until fat folks " fastforward " to the the *significant* outcomes of their behavior--the fat will wait in excited expectation for yet more reason (drugs) to avoid themselves.
