Guest guest
Pardon for my lack of knowledge on this. But, are Oregon acupuncturists considered " doctors " who can perform IMEs on chiropractic cases in our state? Bill Hartje, DC, MS IME's.....updates Morning docs, Regarding the uptick in IME exams ordered that we have noticed, we have also noticed something else: A large proportion of those IME’s being performed by DC’s. In the past we never had a case done by a chiropractic IME. Of the past 6 we had done, 4 were done by DC’s... I also had a patient who also attended an Acupuncture IME as well..Never heard of that. I have to admit that the last few IME exams we’ve had done the doctor has been extremely fair and has recommended further treatment that coincided very well with our treatment plan for the patient. We’ve been pleasantly surprised to say the least. ph Medlin D.C.

Guest guest
OCOM now offers a Doctor of Acupuncture, PhD program, so some of those students do become doctors.... This is who can become an IME according to the state "Health care providers can perform IMEs once they complete a director-approved training to conduct independent exams for workers’ compensation claims and are placed on the director’s list of authorized IME providers." You can always challenge an IME or insist a doctor in your specalty do the exam. If I have a denal or a chart note review, not only do I ask for a DC to review it, but a DC in active practice otherwise the doc has a conflict of interest when reviewing the chart notes.
