Reading through these articles has made me realize something: The current

generation probably has no idea what a true rose or other flower smells

like! What appeals to them are plastic chemicals amassed in a bottle and

sold at astronomical prices.

Hybridization has given us beautiful blooms at the cost of the fragrance

(selling one's soul, if you ask me), and the few old varieties that are left

are rarely found.

On a side note, has anyone dared to take cuttings from old cemeteries? It

sounds macabre, but often that's where you will find the heirloom varieties

of plants.

Hi Cat -

Do a google search on rose rustlers.  There are a number of groups of people

saving antique roses from old buildings, cemeteries, churches, etc.

Liz, everyone, I recommend a program called malwarebytes. I got

the paid version for $19 with a discount code. I have all kinds

of anti-virus, Windows defender, etc., but my computer guy says

malware is the best.

i don't know about that Cat.  Breeders nowadays are definitely breeding scent

back into modern roses.  Even Hybrid Teas, which were notorious for sacrificing

fragrance for form are starting to be scented again.  I've gotten catalogs

within the last few years which feature primarily Hybrid Teas where every other

cultivar mentions " FRAGRANT " or " WONDERFUL FRAGRANCE! " in its description.  So

people do miss the scent and want it back, along with the form.   And of

course rose breeder Austin's English Roses have been out for years , which

combine the fragrance and form of  antique roses with the long-blooming

qualities of modern roses.  The best of both worlds.  I bought an English Rose

called Rose for my mother to plant in her garden and it smells

incredible.  Just like a rose should.

I don't think getting cuttings from cemetaries is morbid at all.  But then

again, I am the Halloween Queen!  :D

Greetings, I am new to the group and would like to share an idea re: disposable

pipettes. I try to use glass droppers but read that the oils will turn to black

droppers to mush.

I went to the local staples and bought a bag of assorted size colored rubber

bands for around $2.59 and now I just wrap the rubber band around the EO bottle

and slip in the plastic

pipette so that it can be reused and less waste in the land fill. Much easier

than trying to label the pipettes!

Hi Isis:

Sounds like you weren't signed in. Happens all the time. You

have to sign in to Yahoo, or you won't get access to the website.
