Subject: Caring and Storing Oils

Hello all, so I've read a lot on caring for essential oils and absolutes but

wanted to get a bit more info. I keep all of my oils (except for citrus and

tarragon) in dark bottles in a dark and cool closet. I have my citrus oils and

tarragon in a fridge (they are still very fresh after 1 year of storage), but

I've also read that some oils, like lavender, should have some sort of

preservative added to protect it. Does anyone know about this? Also, please

let me know if you know of any other oils that should be kept refrigerated.

Thanks.

Hi Eliam,

I ditto your question! I am curious as well. There was a discussion regarding

which oils to refrigerate online about a year ago I believe. I'm trying to find

it in the archives.

I recently asked Anya a more detailed version of your question regarding

Ambrette Seed on her Sunday " Ask the perfumer " blog. She recommended adding a

small amount of alcohol to Ambrette Absolute and Ambrette E.O. to help keep it

from going rancid over time. I realized later on, I use Ambrette CO2 and

wondered what the guidelines were for the CO2.

She also added that vitamin E can be added to citruses and lavenders.

I'm curious if there are any other oils that need additives, such as alcohol or

vitamin E to preserve them?

Sorry, that last post was from me regarding the link to Anya's blog and

ambrette. I accidentally hit send before I was done!
