It is a pituitary hormone you can't tell what your thyroid is doing by this test alone. Remember the t4/t3 must be FREE (free is what is available for use in your body) Some doctors are just running FREE t4, which again is ridiculous by itself. Are you treating your dx of hyperthyroid based on TSH alone? This is the biggest mistake western medicine is making when treating/testing thyroid issues. Please do yourself a favor and have your thyroid levels checked again. I would setting for nothing less then FREE t4, FREE t3, and TSH. I have been researching and dealing personally with this for fours years. Doctors make mistake after mistake with thyroid issues, probably more so then with PA. TSH is a pituitary hormone-alone it will say nothing about your thyroid hormones t4 and t3. Another bit of advise, don't take thyroid meds on the day of blood draw until after the blood has been taking. If you take them before they can mess up your results. That's the only way you will become knowledgeable about yourself. You should know from being on this board, that you must get educated and advocate for yourself. Your aldo test doesn't mean much without a renin test. And that doesn't mean a whole lot without a 24-hour urine Na test. While I have excess aldosterone, my heart palps, anxiety and fatigue were from Lyme disease. Have your doctor test the following: tsh T3 and 4 reverse T 3 and 4 triiodothronine free thryoid peroxidase t3 uptake the family practice and my first two endro's only tested my tsh and said I was normal, but then after talking to another doctor, we ran all these and learned I have hasidmoto's thryoid. good book women's guide to thryoid health by kathryn R simpson. If you have the "free's" then you don't need t4, t3. I personally love the reverse t3 test-most dr's do not. I did have my thryoid removed in July 2009 and since they I vary extremely. this last testing is the worst though for me. with tsh norms of 0.30 to 5.0 on dec 13 it was 5.5. on Feb 22 it has changed to 45.9 while on armour thryoid 115 mg. Is that what it is called/labeled on your labs? Do you know how this works in our bodies? Are we looking for it to be high or low? I am curious to know if it " serves " a purpose in our body. I have been trying to google it and can't find any info on it. How is your dr treating your antibodies/thyroid? Thanks, SuzanneSent from my iPad Actually there is a reverse t4 it is called one is for thryoxine and the other for t4 free direct When my doctor runs the labs we do end up with 8 thryoid tests... get them every 8 weeks Pam I don't think all of these listed below are needed. t3 and t4 are not " good enough " you need FREE t4 and FREE t3. If you have the " free's " then you don't need t4, t3. I personally love the reverse t3 test-most dr's do not. There is not a reverse 4-maybe that is a typo. triiodothronine free is the same as FREE t3 . Antibodies are great to check. t3 uptake is usless. Sent from my iPad I have MAJOR issues with my thryoid.
