Guest guest
A couple of questions; Were you ever on spironolactone? And do they stop the clonidine for your tests?Subject: resistant hypertensive very confused. To: hyperaldosteronism Date: Monday, March 21, 2011, 11:31 AM Hi, I have a lot of problems with my doctors and getting my hypertension under control. I have been on just about every type of drug they can give me or that's what they tell me and the best they do even when stacked up to 3 is bring me to the lower end of high. I have not seen a specialist in aldorsterone problems and I think maybe I should. I got a letter about a year ago from a doctor who was reviewing my test while my regular one was on call. The regular doctor being a nephrologist. He said my aldosterone serum was a little high 32.5 and I should discuss it with him. When my nephrologist came back though he didnt want to even consider the possibility. Also I have constand swelling in my left leg to the point where my left foot and right foot look like they belong to two different people. I have had ultrasounds on my leg and kidney areas and was told my leg looked fine even though badly swollen but the tech thought she saw something around my right kidney and had trouble seeing my left due to what she thought was gas? Im 54 and have had on and off troubles with hypertension starting from my late 30s. No one in my family lines that I know of has had issues like that till they were in their 70s and even then only a few. I had treatments early on of drugs that actually seemed to make my modest hypertension early on worse instead of better and muscle issues leading to joint and foot issues followed with treatments of lisinopril and procardia that was so popular back then. I had to wean my self off them and had swelling reactions that went away after a few weeks. Once my muscles felt stronger I added more exercise and I got better for some years and seemed ok. Years later in my late 40s suddenly I'm swelling and my bp is going crazy. I mean it really seemed very sudden. I had to stop working and was put on a series of diuretics which after about a year suddenly became a type 2 diabetic. I'm pretty sure the drugs contributed as again it only shows up in my family in the 70s and I was on about 3 diuretics at once as the doctors were trying with out success to bring my bp to normal. So years later I have been on so many drugs I cant remember , none of them are really working well and I end up being an uncooperative patient who stops taking some of them after a while when my muscles and joints and bones begin to get messed up. I have been though a number of doctors but only one nephrologist who said he doesn't want to look for a tumor even though he agrees that none of the normal drugs for treating hypertension are working for me. I ask my primary care doctor about it and he wants me to see an endocrinologist but only knows two diabetes specialist that I wont see[again] cause they like to ignore my sulfa drug allergies and want me to act like I have never taken anything and just start from scratch. If there is a doctor in Seattle that I can be pointed to that might work for me better I would be so grateful. i also have allergies though I haven't been screened sense the mid 80s, that include Chlorine and sheep among other things. The sulfa drug allergy was found when I had taken a sulfa drug for 10 days in the late 80s and had a sudden high fever and rash reaction, given emergency treatment for and told never to take a sulfa drug again. As I mentioned decades later I have doctors who don't seem to think it matters. Currently I'm taking lantus insulin, metformin and clonidine. They all seem to work for me though they all also cause me some side effects. They at least do not cause my muscles to be so weak that I cant raise my hands or take walks with out hurting my feet. I feel very strongly that there is a solution but its just not been found. Thanks in advance for any help.

Guest guest
I think my 4 year-old is much wiser than I am Hi, I have a lot of problems with my doctors and getting my hypertension under control. I have been on just about every type of drug they can give me or that's what they tell me and the best they do even when stacked up to 3 is bring me to the lower end of high. I have not seen a specialist in aldorsterone problems and I think maybe I should.I got a letter about a year ago from a doctor who was reviewing my test while my regular one was on call. I have had ultrasounds on my leg and kidney areas and was told my leg looked fine even though badly swollen but the tech thought she saw something around my right kidney and had trouble seeing my left due to what she thought was gas?Im 54 and have had on and off troubles with hypertension starting from my late 30s. Once my muscles felt stronger I added more exercise and I got better for some years and seemed ok.Years later in my late 40s suddenly I'm swelling and my bp is going crazy. I have been though a number of doctors but only one nephrologist who said he doesn't want to look for a tumor even though he agrees that none of the normal drugs for treating hypertension are working for me.I ask my primary care doctor about it and he wants me to see an endocrinologist but only knows two diabetes specialist that I wont see[again] cause they like to ignore my sulfa drug allergies and want me to act like I have never taken anything and just start from scratch. As I mentioned decades later I have doctors who don't seem to think it matters.Currently I'm taking lantus insulin, metformin and clonidine. They all seem to work for me though they all also cause me some side effects. They at least do not cause my muscles to be so weak that I cant raise my hands or take walks with out hurting my feet. I feel very strongly that there is a solution but its just not been found. Thanks in advance for any help.

Guest guest
> > A couple of questions; Were you ever on spironolactone? And do they stop the clonidine for your tests? > > Yes, I have been on it a few times and always end up having to stop because it effects my muscles, joints and they end up with a burning sensation, it gets so bad I cant lift my arms normally in front of me when I take it and last time I had twitching all around my eyes on my face. Taking just the clonadine now for bp I can lift my arms , my joints don't hurt and the lump under my skin that my bicep had turned into is slowly smoothing out into a what feels like a muscle again. Its not keeping my pb in control very well and I have to be careful not to be late cause it goes really high when the clonidine wares off, but at least I dont feel like I might be headed for a wheel chair. By K you mean potassium? I'm looking for other test. We moved recently so in boxes, might take a day or two.

It was 50mg. They gave me Spiro for the bp , the way it was told to me by 3 different doctors it was trial and error cause I wasn't responding to other meds and a just in case to " protect my kidneys " I think some of my labs showed me leaking protein at one point[not in my recent labs]. I have been on Spiro 3 times for extended periods and at first its ok then after a month or so my spine and joints get really stiff and sometimes have a burning itching pain that makes it impossible to stand for more than a few minutes. My muscles get really weak and its hard to do anything. The bicep on my left arm bunched up and made a lump of it self. This last time I took it last year I reluctantly agreed to try it again but same thing happened. I was also other drugs with it but after being off Spiro my muscle contour and strength as some what got better. The lump on my left arm looks like a bicep again after years but my bp is way too high. The clonidine I'm taking helps and makes me sleepy and dizzy off and on so I struggle with fatigue but it seems that's its only issue for me other than like every drug they have given me none of them bring my bp down to normal. I'm going to contact the clinics to get a record of my labs and medications, sorry I don't have all the info I need right now. Also recently I had a reaction to the lantis 24 hour insulin I take every day. My heart started beating very fast for about an hour. No other bad feeling with it but it was kind of creepy. My primary care guy is wanting to send me to a new specialist so I need to look at your list again. The two endos I have seen were diabetic specialist , not a bad thing for me but they wanted to ignore any drug I have ever taken and start from scratch and then see me every other week, didn't even want to talk about the bp issues. Maybe I just have rotten luck. I wonder could allergies be part of my problem with the drugs. I have had to be treated in the past for reactions to a sulfa drug, penicillin and was tested long ago to be allergic to cedar , pine, sheep, and a list of other stuff typical allergy stuff. None of my doctors over the last 8 years have had me stop taking any medications for any test.
