Guest guest
The new endocrinologist I am seeing did not seem to think my aldosterone to renin ratio was out of line. She explained that Bystolic (beta blocker) suppresses renin and therefore caused my ratio to be high. I posted previously that my ratio was 50. The aldosterone was 14 and the renin was 0.28. She told me that since aldosterone was not high, PA was not a concern. I had a clear CT scan showing no mass and normal adrenals. She tested me for a pheo using 24 hour urine, but did not order any further testing regarding the PA. I should get the 24 hour urine results sometime tomorrow. Is she correct that Bystolic can suppress renin by a significant amount? She also mentioned that surgery would not be recommended due to a mass not showing up on the CT. Therefore, she thought that a confirmatory test for PA was unnecessary and told me she would treat with medicine unless my BP would get out of control. I thought surgery would be the best option as it might cure blood pressure and the low potassium drops. Anyone have any thoughts on this Endocrinologist? Is it important for me to seek out additional testing regarding the PA?
