unless they have appointed extra staff and then maybe you won't see Dr

Fell -- but you could ask to see him, or that he be consulted, if you

think the person you see is making a mistake. That's what a team leader

is ...........he takes the final decisions and sorts out the knotty

problems. Ring and ask them who you are booked to see.

Ours said that. We rang to check/insist that we saw him and we did.

Ours said the same too. When I rang I was told that usually if it is

your first appointment, you'd be seen by the consultant and any follow

up appoitments may be someone else on the team.

I have just had an emotional phone call with my paed about referral to DR Fell. She wants to refer me locally and I said they would just say that Charlie is fine rather than investigating. She said she would try but had to go to her business manager and the PCT. I live in East Sussex and the PCT has never said yes to anything yet.She asked if I could give any info about Dr Fell as to why he would be the best person to see Charlie. Any ideas?

>>Because he ignores the fact the child has autism and investigates appropriately based on what he sees in the child.

This is way different from GI's who see autism first and feel bowel issues are too 'political' to deal with.

Dr Fell will NOT discuss autism with you, its not what he is interested in, just bowels, in essence he treats the child not the diagnosis - and he's probably the only one in the country so no other GI will do

Is this paed a nice lady?

The thing is my last paed referred me to Dr Heusckel at the Royal Free and i don't think the PCT were involved so why is this different? Do you think that maybe Dr heusckel could refer me?

>>probably because they (the DHA/PCT) have a block contract with the Royal Free. C & W probably means cost per case contract and in that case they look at the referral differently

Hi Lara

She asked if I could give any info about Dr Fell as to why he would

be the best person to see Charlie. Any ideas? I said he was

interested in the diet and really listened to patients.

The thing is my last paed referred me to Dr Heusckel at the Royal

Free and i don't think the PCT were involved so why is this

different? Do you think that maybe Dr heusckel could refer me?

Sorry not sure how to get there.

Thanks

He is (fast becoming) an absolute expert on autism/gut/brain. He must

wonder why every other parent he sees is bringing him a child with

autism. LOL. He sees a great many children with autism. You can

cite cases of other parents seeing regular gastros who just don't

recognise the kind of lowgrade but chronic and multiple inflammations

that many autistic children have. Point out that you fear it is

degenerative and time is not on CHarlie's side. Then repeat the whole

story either to your MP if they're friendly or local councillor. This

is not about balancing their budget - that's their problem not CHarlies.

Yes Mandi is right, he's not that interested in autism, he's just

seeing a lot of it in his waiting room, becoming an expert by proxy.

But he does pretty much acknowledge autistic enterocolitis, which is

now going to be a broader term to cover the whole area of course. I

wish they'd hurry up

  • 2 weeks later...

We only picked it up on Monday 3rd December but I'll be sure to let

you know. His view ( 's) is that you have to get the metals

out or the inflammation will never to away. That view is shared by

many. But at least healng the gut can help improve detox and increase

food absorption.
