Guest guest
hi there, i've been away and catching up on postings :-) so much to read! and time to get back on track. i didn't eat as poorly as i usually would have while away, but i didn't get any workouts in. i know, i know: progress, not perfection. and i'm training myself for life, right? i had an epiphany while i was away with my family, watching my nine year old on her boogie board in the ocean: i want to learn how to surf. (okay, y'all can stop laughing now ;-) but when you end up with life-threatening conditions and such, you begin to have these sorts of thoughts :-) anyway, i promised my little girl -- i am going to get healthier, and when i reach the point where i'm feeling pretty darn good (and she's a little older than nine, since that may be young), i'm going to find a place that will teach girlfriend and me how to surf. (gidget and gidget's mom, right?) i have a bit of weight to lose and strength to gain, and i just don't think the elliptical is doing it for me anymore. even when i do intervals and crank the levels up to 11 (so to speak for you spinal tap fans), it doesn't feel like i'm putting in that much effort. so a friend of mine told me about the Couch to 5K program. http://www.c25k.com/ lord knows i can tackle the couch part <VBG>. i started it today (i'm doing upper body tomorrow), using someone's 1st week podcast to help me time myself. and i'll be darned if i didn't finish it today!! if i ran any slower, i would probably be running backwards, but hell -- I FINISHED. this is probably laughable to a lot of people who are runners. i was a good sprinter when i was, er, a bit younger, but i have never been able to run much past a mile or so without getting knocked out. but BFL has given me the kick in the proverbial pants to get started. anyway, if any of you runners out there have any helpful hints for a newbie like me, i am all ears. and if anyone knows of other podcasts that work with a starter program, i'd be grateful. and thanks, as always, for not laughing at a dork like me :-) ~sher **************************** http://www.wrekehavoc.com deus ex mama a blog that slices, dices, and makes julienned mac n cheese
