You likely have the special delivery system with a miro pinhole in it that only allows for a stable delivery of the K+ to help protect you stomach from getting too much at once and a lovely ulcer. You will poop out the capsule. If this is the case they should have told you, but just call and ask the pharamacist. These have been around for awhile and I used to get called from the nursing homes telling me the patient is not absorbing the medication and pooping it out when in reality it was the micro capsule that no one bothered to tell me or the nurses about! Found out about them the hard way.

......on the other hand sometimes we don't absorb things before they make their way down the highway.

Can anyone explain to me why Klor-Con 8MEQ tabs do not dissolve in the stomach/intestinal tract ? I take 150 mg Eplerenone and Klor-Con 8 MEQ x 4 daily. Lately I have noted the undissolved Klor-Con tabs are still intact in the stool. They are nearly the same size as when ingested, but the blue coating has dissolved. My doctor was unable to give me an answer, other than stating that Potassium is also available in liquid form.

Any thoughts ?

I never noticed that but my doc changed me to effervescent K b/c it absorbs better. It's a bit like flavored alka seltzer...a little funky tasting but you get used to it.

After I sent this post I googled my own question and found out the answer. The Potassium in Klor-Con tabs are suspended in a wax matrix structure. It is normal to see that structure remaining in the stool. They are designed to do that and you can rest assured that the K has been disbursed into your system correctly.............RodTo:

Do you have a rapid gut transit time? I think they contain a wax matrix and the K comes out but the tablet matrix stays there. If I am correct tell your Dr. I said hello and tell him about drugs.comCheck Drugs.comCan you not DASH rather than take the tablets?I cup of low Na V-8 spicy has 1000 mg of K in a cup So 1000 mg K x 1 mM K/ 40 mg= 25 mM K. Put some Vodka in it and celery stick and you have something that is much better than K tabs.Take him my PA paper as well.
