Guest guest
it will mess with periods. May want to try Inspra which does not have this effect it appears. If you gained wt that would mean you were eating too much salt probably.Or just eating too much and not exercising enough.CE Grim MDHas anyone gained weight with Spiro? I'm just taking 50mg/daily for about 1-1/2 months now. When I was on this a few years ago (100 mg) I also gained weight and it messed with my periods. Any one else? Thanks... Guest guest
5 years on Spiro 25 mg/d + 1 year on 100 mg/d: I don't think weight gain is due to Spiro...or let me say Spiro may cause water retention specially if salt intake is imbalance...I may be losing water retained by Spiro by taking 2.5 mg/d Indapamide (a diuretic). I also take Amlo 10 mg/d and know that if I don't take Indap then water retention is so much that I no longer can wear my shoes...as happened 6 years ago before I took diuretics. The specialist in the video posted here previously advised Spiro+diuretic for PA. Max. I gained weight with it also. I take 100 mg a day. Pam Has anyone gained weight with Spiro? Guest guest
You gained wt because you were eating more that you were burning. Guest guest
yeah but he has not treated as many as we have here. The fat feet is almost certainly related to the Amlodipine and eating too much salt. Indapmide is just chasing the rainbow. Indap makes you pee out salt which turns on salt retaining mechanisms and you retain more salt. Eat less salt and stop the amlod and your girlish ankles will manifest again. No salt retention no water retention. Why as spiro not increased until you could stop all other drugs? What is the Na and K content of your urine?5 years on Spiro 25 mg/d + 1 year on 100 mg/d: I don't think weight gain is due to Spiro...or let me say Spiro may cause water retention specially if salt intake is imbalance...I may be losing water retained by Spiro by taking 2.5 mg/d Indapamide (a diuretic). Guest guest
personally for me, my calories were cut back to between 750 and 1000 with no carbs, nothing whte, and i stil gained weight on veggies on 6 ozs of protein. nothing tastes good at all for me, basically can't taste due to issues with from my cholesterol meds (side effect) Pam You gained wt because you were eating more that you were burning. Guest guest
Hi Dr. Grim, Thanks for your comments. Yes doc confessed he had no clue about PA for > 9 years observing my low K + uncontrolled bp after some 69 drug combo trials. Fat feet were with Amlo 10 without diuretics continued until I no longer could put on my shoes. However, the fat feet looked more like elephamt's feet rather than girl's feet! If they looked like girl's feet at least I could show some legs making some money! By "No salt retention no water retention." do you mean Spiro causes no salt neither water retention? or that while there is no salt retention there is no water retention? Spiro no increased due to doc lack of knowledge of PA...until endo dxed PA. Urine Na & K: I asked doc for these tests, he said they indicate nothing as they depend on amount of water I take in 24 hrs....etc...so I failed to get a requition for med tests. But monthly serum Na, K , Crea, etc. are always normal. Max. yeah but he has not treated as many as we have here. The fat feet is almost certainly related to the Amlodipine and eating too much salt. Yes doc confessed he had no clue about PA for > 9 years observing my low K + uncontrolled bp after some 69 drug combo trials.Trust you took him the article so others he is taking care of don't have to suffer. Spiro does not cause either. IT comes from too much salt in the diet related to what your kidneys can get rid of. The best way they have to get rid of it is to raise the BP to the kidney so it dumps salt. Anytime BP is lowered Na retention occurs at least for awhile. So another reason to lower Na intake. Also reason diuretics as so effective when combinted with other salt retaining BP lowering agents. Spiro no increased due to doc lack of knowledge of PA...until endo dxed PA. Take them both my article. Urine Na & K: I asked doc for these tests, he said they indicate nothing as they depend on amount of water I take in 24 hrs....etc...so I failed to get a requition for med tests. But monthly serum Na, K , Crea, etc. are always normal.Blood Na K and creat tell one or your Dr nothing about your Na intake.I recommend you get the AHA Hypertension Primer and start reading as you already seem to be smarter than your Dr. As him to review basic renal physiology. 24 hr urine Na and k has nothing to do with water intake. it is all Na and K intake. Guest guest
I gained weight as well. I was on a 100mg a day prior to my adrenalectomy in 12/10 but doc is weaning me off. I'm down to 50 right now and should be able to cut it down to 25 next week. It will be interesting to see if I lose weight once I stop swelling from being taken off the diuretics. Guest guest
how's your thyroid function ? I'm just saying that if you eat 1000 calories under par, you should be loosing 2pounds a week, unless you are in starvation mode < 1200 calories then you would store ALL your food. however 1000 under par even with water retention you would end up loosing weight, unless you are retaining half a sea and eating insane amounts of salt. So look for other causes, as stated before maybe hypothyroidsm. good luck > > Has anyone gained weight with Spiro? I'm just taking 50mg/daily for about 1-1/2 months now. Guest guest
I know part of my weight gain on Spiro was because I literally craved salt. I was bad...I'll admit that. But when they increased my Spiro I gained 30 pounds in 6 months. That seems like a lot for just fluid and no change in eating habits. I have 2 teenagers at home and a career in health care that is stressful. Most of the time, my stomach was too messed up for me to eat much. My stomach problems are a lot better just 5 weeks out from my adrenalectomy. Guest guest
Here is a very informative and enlightening explanation by Dr. Grim ...the very reason he is so much insisting on DASH diet: "Spiro does not cause either [weight gain and water retention]. It comes from too much salt in the diet related to what your kidneys can get rid of. The best way they have to get rid of it is to raise the BP to the kidney so it dumps salt. Anytime BP is lowered Na retention occurs at least for awhile. So another reason to lower Na intake.
