Guest guest
Hello group, My name is Sophie. While I've always loved perfumes and delighted in the discovery of new ones, the interest in the craft of them was not ignited until recently. Natural perfumery called to me because natural is most whole and never seizes to amaze. Although my background is in fashion design, I am excited to delve deeply into this new world and see where this passion guides me. For an absolute newbie, I am thankful to be a part of this group and look forward the guidance you may offer. I am in the midst of reading Mandy Aftel's Essence & Alchemy, Jeanne Rose's 375 Essential Oils and Hydrosols and am pondering whether to get a copy of Perfume and Flavor Materials of Natural Origin now (internet prices are quite spendy). I am also interested in your process of learning the craft. Self-study, workshops, online-courses, studying in Grasse, apprenticeship? Your suggestions on where to procure the best ingredients (would you recommend starter kits or buying individually), supplies at good prices would also be appreciated. For anyone else who lives in Los Angeles, are there any local vendors you would recommend for supplies? Are there any conferences where lots of natural perfumery vendors gather? I'd love to be able to smell and learn about the materials in person. Thank you, Sophie
