I've been laid off just about 1-1/2 years and my COBRA just ran out. I have been denied twice for private insurance. I can get some of my meds generic at Walmart, Target & /or Hyvee. I have a dr. appt coming w/blood draw but will have to cancel since I don't have the money to cover it...

Federally-funded

health centers care for you, even if you have no health insurance. You pay what

you can afford, based on your income. Health centers provide

checkups when you're well

treatment when you're sick

complete care when you're pregnant

immunizations and checkups for your children

dental care and prescription drugs for your family

mental health and substance abuse care if you need it

Health

centers are in most cities and many rural areas. Type in your address and click

the 'Find Health Centers' button to find health centers near you.

Butonce you have a stroke or hEart failure or need dialysis it you maybe

Ive worked in federal clinics and agree, but even for some right now even 5

bucks for gas is hard to come by so alot are missing health care. i had a beef

with my last clinic in that people who were Hispanic descent did not have to

show id nor report income. they were automat on the bottom of the sliding scale.

i think that was ok if all got the same treatment.

YOU are the one who welfare is designed for. a hard working taxpayer who puts

into, and will again., the system. it was not designed for the person

having multiple kids out of wedlock who refuses to stop (octomom is a good

example) or the man addicted to meth who uses it for free money

Medicaid

is welfare and is available depending on income level.  The disease involved is irrelevant.

Most

of the clinics around here have Hispanic names and predominately serve that

population. I was in my gyn's

office one day. She was

called away so I had some time to observe. The whole waiting room was filled with pregnant

Mexican girls and their boyfriends with pants on the ground and hats on

backwards. As they checked in, each

indicated Medicaid as their " insurance. "

has to be annually around 15,000 that leaves me out.I was diagnosed with hyperald--

10 years ago. i had beome very weak i thought i may have over exercised myself, the

weakness continued until i drove myself to work one morning upon getting out of the

car i fell to the ground i was able through the grace of God pull myself back to the drivers

seat drove myself home by pressing one leg on the gas and one on the break.i was

taken to the emergencey room where test revealed i had dangerously low pottassium,

after that episode experienced temporary paralysis off and on all these little muscle

spasms and weakness and a whole lot more down the road.Doctors tested for a year

before the diagnosis that no one had heard of.Im on 200mg a day of spironolactone...

one time daily 300 mg of avapro and lisinipril.

U need to learn to read the labels. Cherrios hAve more salt in them than a small Bag of Chips or fries at mcds welcome to the world of food borne Illnesses. I worked since I was 13. I saw work as freedom. Loved what a paycheck gave me! Then as I was living in Ireland doing volunteer work and working full time- I started getting sick. Ended up back in USA and kept trying to work. Went from event coordinator picking up 50lb boxes with ease to driver to temp worker to self taught graphic artist. The last one because I could do it on good days, from my computer. Finally I couldn't even do that. I went into the human services office( welfare) I cried the whole time. You never think this will happen to you. The worst part of it is the prejudice of people who have never been in my situation. Half the time I buy groceries I get rude degrading coments from the check out clerk. But what are my choices? My best friends son says I should just be left to die because taxpayers shouldn't be left to take care of me. Charming fellow. I hate being on welfare but I have no choice. And I for sure am not living the high life off the govt. I have to choose between dr visits , meds , bills and food each month. I taketurns. I take half doses. But I keep on truckin as they say. Who knows maybe I'll get well.

YOU are the one who welfare is designed for. a hard working taxpayer who puts into, and will again., the system. it was not designed for the person having multiple kids out of wedlock who refuses to stop (octomom is a good example) or the man addicted to meth who uses it for free money
