Guest guest
I can't diagnose you, only a doctor can do that after spending time with you. But I can say for myself. I have to deal with some issues. 1. How would my life change if I get the body I dream of? What would I have to deal with. What am I afraid of? 2. Which do I want more, the body of my dreams, or sitting my butt on the couch and eating crap? 3. What am I going to have to give up in order to get what I want. 4. Do I think I'm worth it? if not, why not? 5. Is fitness a priority? if not why not? my last challange I made it a priority. I scheduled it on my schedule and if I had to make choices, my workouts came first in the line up. The first 8 weeks this go round I didn't make it a priority and it shows. The last four? I'm doing it come hell or Ike. This morning case in point. I should be on a six mile run. I can't find my mp3 player. My back up mp3 player needs batteries, right now I'm looking for them. Why didn't I do this last night? I was having a pity party over another issue. I wasn't prepared and now my running will be delayed an hour. I could go back to bed. Thats what most people do, and thats not " bad " it just won't get me the body I want/ Read Bill book Body for Life. Lots of people know how to be healthy and have great bodies. They just choose to sleep more, eat crap and to not do what it takes. On Fri, Sep 12, 2008 at 11:25 PM, marie_thisisit <no_reply >wrote: > OMG! I have a problem. I started BFL about 1 1/2 years ago. Guest guest
You know I " STRUGGLED " many times doing my 12 weeks too. YEARS of failed attempts trying to do a 12 week challenge. I finally went back to my personal trainer. I used to go to him 10 years ago, I was younger and had a decent body and didn't really need a lot of help and didn't take it that seriously back then. Once I got into my 30's my body changed, I found I just couldn't do it as easily on my own anymore! So at 37, and about 20lbs from my goal, I decided I needed something I just couldn't give myself. I decided to go back to my personal trainer. I only see him 2 times a week, but I get a really good workout and he gives me " pep talks " that just enlightens me. He also teaches me, and makes me stronger mentally too. So even though he works me out only twice a week I continue on strong through the rest of the week on a high that he has given me. Plus we set goals and he gives me pointers on my cardio that I do on my own and he's a motivator and a positive thinker He's very informative and tough, but very sweet and understanding and SO helpful. I listen to him intently and soak in everything he has to say like a sponge and play it back in my head through the week when I am on my own. He's always with me! I simply I LOVE HIM! He's my hero and with his help I'm doing this! LOL!! So maybe you need to set up an appointment with a persoanl trainer and see if maybe he/she can give you the motivation and help that you aren't able to give yourself. Or maybe a Nutritionist is someone you need some motivation from. Don't think negative AT ALL. Just keep going on and try to find the help you need. I hope these ideas on the list will help you pinpoint your area of trouble. I know it can be frustrating but I know you'll get there if you really want it! Guest guest
And I have this to say about poor food choices. If you don't want to eat it, why are you buying it? For your family? Sure. Who eats the most of it? if its not your family then well? If it is your family you are going to have to deal with the issue of " they get to eat xyz and I don't. " And if eating crap is more important to you than having the body you want, then by all means eat crap. At some point we have to be able to detach food from emotion. And that is hard. I'm 43 and don't have it down pat. Someone made a good point this week about using food for comfort/reward. We have to use food for fuel ONLY and get our other emotional needs met some other way. (I think I'm preaching to myself here) Sheila

Guest guest
Sheila's questions are brilliant. You need to address what's going on in your head. Your thoughts are what lead you to stick to the plan or to bail and eat cookies. So, don't let them go unexamined (your thoughts, not the cookies ;-). You may also find these helpful: BFL for Cheaters and Binge Eaters http://www.skwigg.com/id76.html 10 Rules for Misfit Body for Lifers http://www.skwigg.com/id77.html If you can do BFL clean and by the book, you'll obviously have much better results. But if you can't do it by the book (or at all) the " cheaters " approach is better than bingeing. It will at least keep you in the habit of small frequent meals, protein, more fruits and vegetables. It will allow you to maintain or gradually lose instead of backsliding completely. On Fri, Sep 12, 2008 at 11:25 PM, marie_thisisit <no_reply >wrote: > OMG! I have a problem. Guest guest
Hi ! First things first, CALM DOWN! You are not alone! Not a single woman in our group is perfect, and everyone here faces the same challenges you do. The important thing is, even if you have to start over every five weeks, each time you make the decision to start you are doing something wonderful for yourself and your health. Don't give up! Before we can diagnose, we need some info. Did you write down your goals and patterns of action at the beginning? Did you write down the habits that might cause you to backslide? Do you plan your meals and workouts? Really plan them...write them down and follow them to the letter? This is such an important part of changing a lifestyle and making it stick. I am a perpetual BFL'er as well, I just spent week three not working out and eating only occasionally to plan. This is sad to me because I lost 6 pounds of fat in the first two weeks and I feel and look so much better. I just used some emotional baggage as an excuse to let myself slack. My week four starts tomorrow, so I am spending my free day planning and cooking and I will start back on track. > > OMG! I have a problem. I started BFL about 1 1/2 years ago. Guest guest
, Dispite not being perfect, you have made great progress. Progress, not perfection, remember. You might want to change your trigger foods to once a day treats and have 100 cal or less of them, instead of total deprivation. I'd never been able to change this. I didn't want to " eat for fuel. " However, I am now on a program prescribed by Leigh Peele called, REPAIR, in which I am week by week increasing my calories from 1200 to ultimately 2200 and then a week of refeed at 2200-2600. Also, each week I have " macros " to hit calorie protein fat carb. So I started dealing with it " like the doctor ordered " and found myself writing every single morsel into fitday.com, (Leigh recommends weighting, not estimating, your food amounts: see this video to see how we might stall fat loss by poorly estimating) ....anyway, my point of this email is that because I was " following doctors orders " I put my food in fitday, BODY FOR LIFE style food and portions, a day ahead, for tomorrow. I'd never planned that much in advance, but I created a day that " Hit the Macros " ... after a week, I was more familiar with it, and could enter the food I had packed for the day, and see that I had say, 400 cal left for dinner, of that I needed more fat and protein. So I worked my dinner and snack around what calories fat carb protein I had left to hit something like this: 1200 cal 40% protein or more 20-25% fat 25-30% carb I have to tell you, I felt peaceful. I am hitting the macros EVERYDAY, within 5% error. I feel the emotion is out of the picture. I do have a piece of chocolate 4-5 days a week, but most of my fat is healthy nuts avocados salmon olives olive oil and now fish oil. I REALLY wanted to see if her program could help me, so I was pretty committed to clean healthy food. She talks about " 1 item foods " like onion, green pepper, tomato, chicken, rice: they could add together to be a meal. But she suggests not eating the foods that have multiple ingredients. That has REALLY helped me limit my choices; I wasn't eating much of that, but now the percentage is even lower; occasional, but not often. Taking the emotions out of eating has been a HUGE EYE OPENER FOR ME. I feel so peaceful. I feel it is so simple now. I like my food. I am learning to make it more sophisticated, after the first 2 weeks were pretty simple combinations, not unlike BFL: ie, chicken and sweetpotato and asparagus. Taking the emotions out of eating, hitting the macros, and I am down 6 pounds in less than 3 weeks, go figure? I'd been stalled for months. I feel so peaceful. I don't feel frustrated. I feel successful I feel proud I am looking in the mirror again. I am happier So being scientific about food has been a wonder for me, not a sacrifice. I actually sit and have a whole ounce of almonds as a treat, instead of binging at end of night on 2-3 oz of almonds. The attitude is so different. Scientific. Pleasurable. Go figure! ? Guest guest
Hey there, . I've been through sporadic binges amidst my BFL efforts too. The best thing I've ever done is to get rid of any of those bad foods. If they're not in the house, you can't eat them. (Then, of course, you have to not allow yourself to go out and buy the stuff when you crave it either.) Now I still give in occasionally and eat something horrible when I'm trying to eat clean. But when I can force myself to stay away from the M & Ms and ice cream for 48 hours (which always seems like an eternity), then I magically don't really feel like eating those things anymore. It's wonderful! I've had to ask my husband to be strict with me and keep me away from it, but it's worth it. There's nothing wrong with you! It sounds like you've already come a long way, so you're way ahead of lots of people out there. Celebrate every step you make in the right direction, even if you're not doing it " perfectly " . Make your choices one at a time--don't get into the " well, I've already ruined my eating for today anyway " mentality. And focus on the progress you DO make, and how good it feels to make healthy choices. - Janine
Guest guest
I am a psychologist. You don't need a diagnosis. You need a new way of thinking. You seem to think in extremes where eating is concerned: 100% BFL or binge. If you eat one thing that isn't on the program, you decide that you're in binge mode. That is what you want to address. Here are some ideas. Practice eating one non BFL food a day. Plan it the day before. It will teach you that there are many eating plans in between the extremes. Make it a no option rule that you will eat nothing without writing it down. A program like Gyminee can help you see exactly what you are eating and can help you get control. Get your binge trigger foods out of the house. You may want to ore-plan your free day foods and portions to help you get control. Write down the things you say to yourself in a binge. Then write statements that refute these thoughts. For example, if you think " I blew it, " refute it with, " eating one thing is not blowing it. I am still eating 90% BFL or better and I will get A results. " Have your new thoughts visible for you to review daily. You can do it! But you have to think of yourself like an addict. You need structure, accountability and vigilence. Best wishes! http://wonderwomen.typepad.com On Sep 12, 2008, at 11:25 PM, marie_thisisit <no_reply > wrote: > OMG! I have a problem. Guest guest
hi jennifer and group.. i to have this same problem.. my timing is different then yours.. but i did great for like 2 yrs straight... i lost 40 lbs.. then i started to forget where i came from .. and would get down on my self for not being further a-head.... sometimes u have to just go with it.. and when u fall off the wagon as i call it except that .. examine it and see why it happens... eventually u have to learn to reprogram your thoughts.. or coping mechanisms... so those questions they listed where really good.. my latest trick is the secrete... u know it was on opera.. well i watch it weekly and its helping me re focus my mind and what i want and asking for it.. and visualizing what i want.. i hurt my back in all this.. and that has really tossed me off the wagon cause i cant do anything but walk.. and barley that... i manage to stretch daily for like an hr just to move.. so i have really had to address my caloric intake.. and that is so hard for me.. i love food.. and the stress of the pain makes me wanna eat to forget my legs hurt so bad.. anyway your not alone.. just think positive.. and remember how long it took u to get where u were when u started bfl .. and know its gonna potentialy take that long to clean it up..so for me i spent 27 yrs messing up my body.. and for the last 3 yrs i have been trying to fix it.. thats why bfl is so nice.. its a lifestyle.. not a diet.. good luck to you all and enjoy the rest of your late summers... annie > > OMG!
