Guest guest
Diabetic office goal is 130/85 so at home should be 125/80 or less. Do you need a large cuff?CE Grim MDYes, I have. That's why nobody diagnosed me with PA. But I started to take eplrenone 50 mg a day and my BP is much better and consistent but it's still not 130/80. It's in average 140/80. And I am diabetic. Guest guest
50 lbs ;ong grain brown rice is about $60.So if you eat 1 lb of dry rice a day it will cost about $1 a day. My guess is that most cannot eat that much rice in a day.But have not converted dry rice one lb to wet rice weight. Guest guest
It does not make ethical sense to provide food that is loaded with food borne illness to those who must use it. I read about a girl from a family of 12 who ate beans and cornbread and some form of greens two meals a day her whole life. Ice cream was their treat on Christmas and the 4th of July. When she married and moved cross country she went to the dr for the first time in her life and was declared the healthiest person he had ever seen. Guest guest
Mac and cheese is about a dollar . Salmon and fresh veg is about four dollars. When a person is shopping w food stamps they likely have an extremely limited budget. Also the person is probably not well and preparing fresh food isn't always an option. I have about 15 days a month that preparing food is not an option. I am just to ill. Yes I would love to have the money and the energy to prepare fresh meals. Unfortunatly poverty and lack of energy makes for less healthy options. On top of this I have to deal with prejudiced people when I present my food stamp card. Try a little compassion and education instead of snobbery and bullying. It is embarrassing to use the card. Now when I meet ppl like Val I sayI'll trade my nausea, fatigue and cancer with you anyday. Usually gets rid of their self righteous looks. We dont have the right to dictate what anyone eats period. that is a San Fransirco socialist ideal that the smarter ones. . . our "leaders" who feel they know more than others because they were "chosen" decide whats best. though our all knowing supreme leader cant even quit smoking! >Food stamp people can buy any food they want from filet of sole to macaroni >and cheese. Guest guest
All I said is that I've seen people buy filet of sole with their food stamps. That's a choice. I would trade my nausea, fatigue and cancer with you any day, too. If you have PA, and you eat things like prepared mac and cheese, it will eventually kill you. Val From: hyperaldosteronism [mailto:hyperaldosteronism ] On Behalf Of Txsgreen Sent: Tuesday, February 15, 2011 10:25 AM To: hyperaldosteronism Subject: Re: Re: Skin issues? Now when I meet ppl like Val I say I'll trade my nausea, fatigue and cancer with you anyday. Usually gets rid of their self righteous looks. Guest guest
Try preparing them when you're so Ill that pouring a glass of water is exhausting. People tend to judge based on their own reality. I used to be as judgmental as you all then I had 11 surgeries and guess what lost my ability to keep a job- got on food stamps. Huge wake up call. I used to shop at farmers markets and prided myself on my cooking skills. Now I shop with 62 dollar a month budget and use coupons and only buy what's very on sale. I know my health would be better if I ate lovely fresh salads everyday. Unfortunately I can't afford them or prepare them. Rice and beans take lots of energy to prepare. Packaged prepared ones take 90 seconds. Hopefully none of you will end up like I have. But it wouldn't hurt for y'all to realize that everyone on food stamps isn't a waster. Prejudice and bias based on what? Do any of u actually know the reality of being ill and unable to work in America? Try to remember this next time you look down your nose at me. Next-time you have flu think about trying to prepare food and shop. That is how I feel most days. I'm not trying to stir things up here just wake people up to their biased uninformed ideas. And actually quite delicious prepared right (skipping the salt, butter, and cheese) Re: Re: Skin issues? As I recall rice and beans and potatoes in large bags are cheap and salt free. Guest guest
I understand your situation. I'm a social worker and have dealt with people poor by circumstance as well as people poor by choice. It's not a good idea to stereotype people with money any more than it is to stereotype people with no money. I do not judge people based on the public benefits they receive UNLESS they are in their current situation b/c they refuse to be accountable or help themselves. I have helped many people get on Social Security Disability and it's truly a shock to them when they realize their food stamps are getting cut off b/c they "make too much".....now take that person as opposed to the woman that keeps having children, compliments of medicaid, and utilizes those children as an excuse to not work. I've heard of perfectly capable people cutting their hours at work VOLUNTARILY b/c social services told them they made too much for food stamps. No one should judge until they have seen for themselves another's true circumstances but we are ALL guilty of that at times. Juli PS. I'm NOT a social services social worker. I knew I would never get rich as a social worker but also knew I would never work for poor wages and a truly backwards welfare system! Guest guest
Txsgreen I don't know what state you live in but many states have state funded nutrition programs. A nutritional expert comes to your home and educates you on the healthiest foods and ways to prep them based on your food budget. Our program in Oklahoma is through the Oklahoma State University Extension Office. Just something to research in your area...hope that helps some. Guest guest
So the money that should be given to families in order to improve their diet, instead, goes to pocket of doctors to make them richer. No wonder the number of obeys is doubled since 1980.... Max. I don't know what state you live in but many states have state funded nutrition programs. Guest guest
Ok, that remark threw me off. These are NOT doctors and program such as this are GRANT programs. I think you are missing the premise behind a program like this. Juli To: hyperaldosteronism Sent: Tue, February 15, 2011 1:01:20 PMSubject: RE: Re: Skin issues?
