Guest guest
Dr. Grim, can you elaborate on that? Are you saying she was taking in too many calories from chicken, or do you mean " too much " chicken and not enough variety from other foods, or that when on spiro one needs to limit chicken? The reason I ask is that I've found that while on antihypertensives I always gain weight - about 10 pounds, which comes right off as soon as I stop the meds. (I'm the one with the extremely restricted diet, so overeating isn't an issue for me - I don't eat much to begin with!) - msmith1928 45, female, 5'3 " , 120 lbs, 1cm left adrenal nodule, aldosterone 42.3, renin 0.5, potassium <2.9 (when not taking supplements) > > > When the doctor put me on spironolactone i went from 128lbs to gaining sixty extra lbs > > The drug helps boost the potassium that we make off what we eat.I went on lettuce > > and baked ckicken for 3 months and lost nothing. No one can know how a drug will > > react with each individual because were all so different.I wish there was a better alter- > > native to this drug. Most people with kidney problems get puffy after treatment. > > > > >

Guest guest
Just a bit of advice... Weight means close to nothing, specially for people like us that have NA/K imbalance. Since we can retain water and lots of it, a lot of our weight can be cause of litters and litters of water, me for instance I used to pee 2.7-3L a day when off spiro, and of course when you are not on spiro I noticed your body works harder, to mantain you " well " ( anxiety, tachycardia etc ) then you start with spiro all of the sudden you stop peeing your tachycardia lowers, your anxiety lowers other body functions lower down, so basically you use less calories. That and the fact that you no longer pee like a horse, could mean that you could gain " weight " so once again the magic weight formula weight = calorie intake - burned calories I am quite certain at least on my case that on spiro I burn less calories ( less tachy, less anxiety ) , and I pee a lot less now, so I guess I could retain some water. now the REAL way to know what's going on is not by weight, but by meassurement ( specially if you start exercising, if you trade fat for muscle the weight of muscle is mor than the one of the fat ) so meassure yourself, if you see that your fat folds are indeed increasing then you are gaining weight. if you see them decreasing and the weight is the same and goes up you could be gaining muscle mas. if you see them decrease and the weight is more or the same, you could be retaining water. Also even during the day you can take your weight several times, you will see it changes up to 5 pounds during the day. so really again.. weight says absolutely nothing. Guest guest
Solution to US social problems should start by abandoning present obsolete method of elections and replace it by 21st century method in which there is NO nomination, no canvassing and all can be equally elected as representatives of people ...present old method allows reps of XLarge corporations to dominate law making and all lower levels...age of maturity of mankind requires that if a person indicates slightly that s/he is interested to be elected to office, s/he should be eliminated from the electoral list!!! heheheh good dreams!...but with all the low-life people placed in office as our representatives we cannot expect more than this mess!
