Guest guest
> > Hi Ambrosia, > I just recently read this post, and the blog. Interesting. Petitgrain has always been a difficult one for me. I love how it smells out of the bottle, but everytime I try to use it in something all I get is this really raw, harsh, very-green-but-not-in-a-nice-way note. And its really strong. I hate to say this, but it makes every blend smell almost TOO natural! Maybe it's just the one I have. I've had it for years because I don't use it much due to the preceding reasons, so maybe I should shop around a bit more. I was on The Good Scents Company website and learned that Petitgrain Mandarin can be used to create a plum note. I'm also finding I'm not fond of Orange Blossom absolute either. It's this odd combination of funky rankness with mint. It's so disapointing because the actual blossoms on the tree are heavenly. All other citruses I love and love working with. > > > Hi ..... If you want to take another stab at a petitgrain.... I once has a petitgrain sur fleur that was very nice...As I understand is a co-distill of the leaves, twigs, and the flowers...It has less of the edge than the standard petitgrain orange... Back in the days of old (AT), I got a tiny sample of the orange flower absolute from Liberty...It was in no way rank or minty , as I remember....It was a tiny sample of blossom heaven....Almost stunning in it's beauty... One more side note....your description of orange flower absolute reminded me of Liberty's neroli, at the time....... -- W. Bourbonais L'Hermite Aromatique A.J.P. Guest guest
Dear - I have the exact same problem - petitgrain smells sooooo bitter to me...I am hoping it is just that the three types I've tried are harsh, but I also wonder whether certain folks dont have a higher sensitivity to the bitter notes in petitgrain - I have a lot of friends who dont get bitter or harsh from the oil, and I have actually noticed that since I had surgery this last year the oil smells totally different to me - I can detect some sweetness to it that I didn't perceive before. I'm hoping that some new distillates of petitgrain from various citruses will change my mind! Kindly, Jess Ring > It's good to know I'm not the only one. So many people get rapturous about it. I don't get it. Maybe my nose is super sensitive to the bitter notes.

I really don't want to mention where I got the one I have from, because for the most part I usually love their products and like doing business with them. I'm just not fond of their Orange Blossom.

When I walk into a room where a petitgrain has been being used - that's when I love them - diffused through the air all around. Does anyone else find that?? Guest guest
Petitgrain is not one of my favorites either. I just received a small sample of mandarin petitgrain and it has a lot of sweetness to it along with the petitgrain odor.  Jane
