This is my first day of doing this program. How great it is to have

a " personal support " staff right here to answer my questions literally

as they arise! Tomorrow I have to go back to work (been off for the

summer). I know it's going to be really hard to eat 6 times a day

(never thought I'd say that). How can you eat a meal when you are

working? (I'm a teacher). Would it be a good idea to try the shakes?

Also, what about diet softdrinks? Are they okay?

All you need is an insulated lunch cooler and some of those blue ice things.

Plan all your meals ahead of time and take them with you. Maybe lunch is a

real meal that you plan to sit down and enjoy and your other 2-3 meals are

things you can eat quickly while standing or on the go. Like shakes or bars,

string cheese, dried fruit, turkey jerky, nuts, yogurt, hard boiled eggs,

tuna pouches. If you get a few breaks during the day, any of those will

work. It only takes a couple of minutes to step out and eat a few bites.

If you're always in front of students, shakes are good because you can put

them in any kind of cup or mug and not draw attention to the fact that

you're eating every 2-3 hours. :-)

1 or 2 sticks of low fat string cheese is a protein portion. Kind of on the

low side, but ok on the go.

Egg portions are usually 5 whites, or 1 whole egg + 4 whites, or 1 cup of

egg beaters. If you're hard boiling them, you just toss the extra yolks. Or,

you could probably also eat 2 hard boiled omega eggs. The protein would be a

little low and the calories a little high, but it's portable and you're not

wasting anything.

You might try Zone bars, Myoplex Lite bars or EAS AdvantEdge bars. Look for

something under 300 calories that has at least 15g of protein and less than

30g or so of carbs. Real food is almost always better than eating a bar, but

bars will get you through the day when you're busy and don't have time for a

meal.

No, don't eat the yolk. They are loaded with fat and cholesterol!

You can on your free day though.

Egg yolks are also loaded with nutrients, particularly omega eggs where the

chickens have been fed flax seeds. Bill suggests 2 whole hard

boiled eggs and an orange as a meal in Eating for Life. But you do want to

want to watch your total calorie intake because whole eggs can add up fast

if you start making multiple-egg omelets and stuff.

Some info on the changing view of eggs & cholesterol:

So it would be okay to eat 2 whole eggs a day? I LOVE hardboiled

eggs. That would be great for me. I could do that one meal

everyday, especially with an orange. I figured one egg would be a

portion though. Is it not? Just curious , are you the

moderator? I sure do appreciate all of your help and advice!

Yeah, that would be me. :-) Officially, there are like 8 other moderators,

but they seem to have vanished and left me in charge. Mwahahaha...

One egg is only about 6g of protein and you're shooting for more like 15-25g

per meal. Two eggs will put you closer with 12g.

But it is okay to have two whole boiled eggs for at least one meal

daily?

According to Bill it is. But if you have raging heart disease or

something, you might want to run the " dozen eggs a week " idea past your

doctor. :-) I would also look for omega eggs next time you're at the grocery

store. That will increase the heart/health benefits of eating the yolks.

Eggland's Best is one popular brand:

February (Sorry, I don't know your real name!), you do know about

Skwigg's website, right? If you read all the articles she has in her

" Stuff to Read " section, I think you'll get a pretty good handle on

things. Regarding your current menu questions, I highly recommend you

check out her " Snack-o-Matic " chart:
