Guest guest
I would strongly advise you to keep a seven-day moving average of your BP. When I was first studying mine, I took it at 8 a.m., noon, 5 p.m. and 10 p.m. I averaged those for the day and then did the moving average. After it became apparent that my blood pressure was highest at 5 p.m., I now only take it at that time. every day. The moving average smoothes out lumps and bumps and gives you a better picture of where you are. Along with that, on the same spreadsheet, keep a record of your meds - what you take and how much. That way, you can see what meds are doing to blood pressure. I also kept a strict record of everything that went into my mouth. I used FitDay. It gives you reports on the nutrients you take in and how much you expend through exercise or just being alive. http://www.fitday.com/ I'm wondering if your BP variance is because of a variance in your sodium ingestion. Guest guest
I read the paper about correctly taking a BP. I have a monitor though unfortunately it is in SC at the moment. What do you do to make sure your machine is callibrated correctly? Do you bring it to your doctor? I took mine in Walmart yesterday. No back on the little booth. Sat for a minute and BP was 177/110, sat a few minutes 165/98, sat a few more minutes 143/90. Is that normal for it to drop so fast. I was walking in to pick something up, but was by no means running.Subject: RE: Re: Recently diagnosedTo: hyperaldosteronism Date: Wednesday, February 9, 2011, 8:57 AM I would strongly advise you to keep a seven-day moving average of your BP. Guest guest
In last 11 years I have tried several methods for bp measurement at home and finally reached the conclusion that for more precise n reliable readings I have to use 3 different brands of bp meters and each occasion of measurement, I use each one after a 3 min laps between readings. at least 2 hrs after a meal seated feet on ground, back leaned to chair ....etc...as prescribed to standardized bp readings...JNC7 ...etc. However, the key to precise bp reading is when the 3 bp meters indicate very close systolic, diastolic, pulse values. If one bp meter consistently shows far diff readings then it is replaced with another brand until the 3 bp readings are nearly identical or consistent. Max. 61M L adenoma by NP59 scan. High aldo not low renin. med combo #75={Spiro=100, Amlo=10, Indap=2.5, Ramip=5, Metf=1000, Prav=40, Feno=67, K.cl=120 mEq} I read the paper about correctly taking a BP. I was walking in to pick something up, but was by no means running.-- l

Guest guest
Don't let the size of the tumor fool you! The pathology report from my adrenalectomy said mine was 1.7cm. That little thing wreaked havoc on my life for over 10 years. It may be little but it's more than capable of screwing up a LOT of things! ) Juli 40y F, Post Min Invasive Adrenalectomy 12.15.10 Subject: Re: Recently diagnosedTo: hyperaldosteronism Date: Tuesday, February 8, 2011, 9:17 PM In comarison to everyone else here the numbers sound pretty minor and the tumor very small. Unless I am just not understanding these numbers right.> > >> > > I'm new here. I find it a bit confusing to navigate this site but I'll give it a whirl. I have recently been diagnosed with PA. After many years of headaches, uncontrolled HBP (tried several meds and lifestyle changes), low potassium generally feeling ill, heart palpatations etc I told my primary he needed to find me a doc who could do something for me. He sent me to an endocrinologist. She did some bloodwork,a 24 hr urine test and more bloodwork, a cat scan and more bloodwork. There is a small tumor on my left adrenal gland. She tells me "piece of cake" (not those words but....)says tumor can be removed and headaches etc will stop.Starts spiro, increases my potassium, takes away other BP meds. Long story short suddenly it is "complicated"and have to wait to see an oncology surgeon-she said not because it is cancer but because it is complicated and he is good at that. Their office tells me they wont even call me until the end of March to possibly give me a consulatation appointment. In meantime my potassium went too high and meds changed again and continue to feel like crap. HELP. I am in Maine and don't kno where to turn. Guest guest
This is an interesting approach but I argue that the only BP that we know what to do about is a morning one before meds as this is what trials have used to diagnose and treat "high blood pressure". Unfortunately we do not know what to do about a BP that is "high'" in the afternoon. This is the reason I recommend the AM BP taken 3 times after 5 min of rest and the last 2 averaged. The running average of BP at this time should be <135/85 unless one has diabetes or renal disease then the goal should be 130/80. The latter recommendation is not based on many long term trials. How would we test if 5 PM BP is better than the AM BP.1. You take a large number (10,000) of folks who measure their BP at 8 AM and 5 PM. 2. Then you randomly assign 1/2 of them to work with their Drs to get BP to goal at 8 AM or at 5 PM.3. Then you count over the next 5 years how many in each group have strokes, heart attacks, etc. 4. You set up a "stopping rule" that says if the rate in one group exceeds the other significantly you stop the study, break the code and see who won.CE Grim MD I would strongly advise you to keep a seven-day moving average of your BP. I have a file on how to check you device in the Dr office that you can take to them as most will not know how to do it.CE Grim MDI read the paper about correctly taking a BP. I have a monitor though unfortunately it is in SC at the moment. What do you do to make sure your machine is callibrated correctly? Do you bring it to your doctor? I took mine in Walmart yesterday. Guest guest
I would be very interested in how much difference you see between devices? I took my own with 7 different devices and the averages varied by 40/30 mm Hg. Scary.CE Grim MD In last 11 years I have tried several methods for bp measurement at home and finally reached the conclusion that for more precise n reliable readings I have to use 3 different brands of bp meters and each occasion of measurement, I use each one after a 3 min laps between readings.at least 2 hrs after a mealseated feet on ground, back leaned to chair...etc...as prescribed to standardized bp readings...JNC7 ...etc.However, the key to precise bp reading is when the 3 bp meters indicate very close systolic, diastolic, pulse values. If one bp meter consistently shows far diff readings then it is replaced with another brand until the 3 bp readings are nearly identical or consistent. Max.61M L adenoma by NP59 scan. CE Grim MD I would strongly advise you to keep a seven-day moving average of your BP. I kept myself at no more than 800 mg/d. KLOR-CON M20 is 20 mEq of potassium. Guest guest
Actually my K did not go up after stopping the spiro/HCTZ 25/25. I had issues w/edema. Everyone is different and it was a struggle to keep my K above 3.5 for several years. I'm sure the HCTZ did not help but based on my experience, I don't feel like the 25mg of HCTZ were a contributing factor. Wonder why you were on it? Val From: hyperaldosteronism [mailto:hyperaldosteronism ] On Behalf Of juli idunno Wow talk about highs and lows! That's unreal! The lowest my K ever got (recorded anyway) was 2.6. Prior to my surgery, I was on 75mg Spiro, 25/25 Spiro/HCTZ and 100meq K and my K was never higher than 4.0.
