Guest guest
Statins scare me for non-CMT-related reasons. Last year for two brief periods, I tried Lipitor and Crestor, and both brought on almost incontrollable diarrhea and severe pain in my right abdominal area. Before that time I'd never any concerns about my liver. In fact, before going on Lipitor, I'd had a complete blood work-up and the tests showed no indication of my liver being in bad shape. However since those two episodes (the time I took the drugs amounted to about nine weeks), I have been concerned about my liver. Taking milk thistle (in capsules from Solaray and also containing tumeric root extract, dandelion root and artichoke leaf) stopped my abdominal pain (which was very deep and very bad and piercing as well as throbbing). I also credit the milk thistle with healing my liver from the statins. Throughout my life I've been sensitive to pharmaceutical medications. Often I've suffered from rarely reported side effects, and usually with no knowledge that such side effects have been reported by others. When it comes to statins, I'm amazed that so many people can take them with no problems. I think my brief exposure to statins hurt my liver, and I'm staying away from them.
