Guest guest
I sound like a bag of microwave popcorn when I work out. Noisy joints are common and usually nothing to worry about. Pain is a whole other story. When you say your shoulders hurt today, do you mean the deltoid muscles hurt (excellent) or do you mean inside the shoulder joint hurts (not good)? Don't do or continue anything that causes sharp joint pain. It means that you're causing injury and/or that your form is off. 10 pounds is actually pretty heavy for a lateral raise. The shoulder is a very small, very tricky joint. You can't load it up unless the weight is kept close to your body and you've gradually built up your conditioning. Put too much weight out on a long lever (lateral raises) and things torque. Although I can use 20-30 pound dumbbells for overhead presses, I don't go over 5-12 on lateral raises because things start to pinch and crunch. Once you've had a shoulder injury, you don't ever want another one, so I've learned to be cautious. On bicep curls, make sure your upper arms stay close to your body and that your wrists are straight throughout the movement. If your wrists bend, it becomes a forearm exercise and weird things happen. So, a few popping and crunching noises are to be expected. Sore muscles are to be expected. Screaming joint pain is a tip off that there's something wrong with the exercise, the weight or the form. Hope that helps. :-) On Tue, Jul 1, 2008 at 7:57 PM, Click wrote: > I noticed yesterday when I was doing shoulder side raises with dumbells > that > my shoulders kept popping. Guest guest
, Thanks so much for that information!! NO it's not joint pain..definitely muscle. Also my side raises were with only 5 pounds. I did the seated shoulder dumbell presses with a max of 8 pounds. ( I am a total weakling in my upper body can't you tell? but I AM working on it.) Click Body4LifeHottie@... Guest guest
, I love the " funsize " tagline. That is too funny. I take glucosamine and chondroitin to help with joints, etc. Crackling and popping can be something called " crepitation " which just happens as a part of aging. (and aging can be in 20s, I had more arthritis like pains in my 20s than now in my 40s because I work out regularly.) If it doesn't hurt your wrists, don't worry about it. Good news is that working out with weights means less arthritis and all that other fun stuff.
