Guest guest
Hi Goran Nightmare - it's all so hard to keep track of, I sympathise. I am not the expert but... The one to really avoid is aspartame - it's not the same as saccharine. Other people will know more but saccharine, whilst not nutritious is not, as far as I'm aware, the enemy. Aspartame, MSG, those nutrasweet type sweeteners and flavourings are the ones to remove forever from the diet (yours as well as your child!!) Xylitol which is pretty healthy gut wise is illegal on SCD - a major disappointment for us! But you have to really stick to SCD for it to work. saccharine does not feed yeast - SCD will really help heal the gut and deal with yeast. Nothing else other than small amounts of honey are permitted on SCD. Ideally get your child to drink lots of water (or legal pear juice) but failing that I personally wouldn't get too upset by a little saccharine if it ensures that your child eats and drinks a healthy amount. Guest guest
Hello, you should believe the negative stuff you have read about Saccharine. It is bad for autistic kids. Just go to Google and type in Autism and saccharine, it causes and prolongs ticks and all types of repetitive behaviours, it makes them unable to sleep at nite, sends them hyperactive. Thats my view, through doing some internet research....... from > > Hi, > > Its Goran from Macedonia writting... > I have a question and is very important to me: > My son likes very much to drink juices, a tons... > Now he drink only lemon lemonade, plum compote, no sugar added... > But he likes sweat... > I was adviced that Stevia is not SCD legal and that Hermesetas sweetener is the best... > So I make a huge expedition and find Swiss Hermesetas mini sweetener, and buy for the next 3 years.... > BUT, reading around, on other groups, and from other parrents, I receive advices that > saccrine is a neuro toxin and this is not safe for my son.... > The link for Hermseat mini sweetenrs and content: > http://www.hermeset as.com/data/ en/products/ country/nutritio n/switzerland. html > > Switzerland Hermesetas mini sweeteners > > Sweeteners: Pure Sodium Saccharin > 1 tablet sweetens as much as one teaspoon of sugar (about 5 g) > Suitable for diabetics > Zero calories > Protects the teeth > Hermesetas mini sweeteners contains Per tablet Per 100 g Protein 0 mg 0 g Carbohydrates, available 0 mg 0 g Fat 0 mg 0 g Energy 0 kJ > 0 kcal 0 kJ > 0 kcal Sodium 1.25 mg 10.0 g > > PLEASE, any advice, is this ok for my son, for any child, he drink a lot of lemonade with sweeteners in, why everybody say that Saccharin is neuro toxin, is it or not, safe or not??? > > Regards, > Goran, Macedonia > > > __________________________________________________ >

Guest guest
My kid is unusual - he'd rather chew actual lemons than drink lemonade! Have you tried posting on one of the SCD sites? I'm pretty sure I've only seen saccharine and honey listed but somewhere like the pecanbread site someone would know a lot more. Guest guest
It's known to help with infections. I know that some medical device companies have recently launched bandages impregnated with Manuka honey which helps speed up healing and prevents infections. We use it in place of sugar when baking some of my son's foods. Worth shopping around though, as it's crazily expensive. Guest guest
We use manuka but Tom hates the taste and it's a devil to cook with in my experience as you can't drip it. Guest guest
Hi Goran, I’ll try and give some straight answers. I don’t think many British kids drink tea and a lot of British adults drink tea with no sugar or sweetner. We don’t put sugar or sweetners in juice either. Kids in Britain though do drink sweetened drinks. They are common but they are pre-sweetened and NOT healthy. Some people on this list have juicers and make their own juice. They probably don’t add sweetners. A lot of people buy them. we buy White organic pear juice, not from concentrate which you can buy at www.goodnessdirect.co.uk. It’s expensive but we dilute it. My Tom doesn’t have sweetners because we don’t add it to drinks and I can’t cook!!! (we do buy biscuits with a bit of honey in them though) SARA -----Original Message----- From: Autism-Biomedical-Europe [mailto:Autism-Biomedical-Europe ] On Behalf Of pani pani Sent: 26 October 2007 12:35 To: Autism-Biomedical-Europe Subject: Re: Re: OT: - SUGAR SUPLEMENT - Saccharine - Safe or NOT ??? Guest guest
I don't use added sweeteners and avoid things with sugar (sucrose) as far as possible. if you're doing SCD then really your only option is honey, but not too much at that. In the long term you have to re- educate your child's palate so they accept things being less sweet; there is no simple solution. It's easier if you're going low sugar rather than no sugar, I know you can't do that with SCD. So I give my son chocloate (he seems OK with it) that's 85% cocoa, no milk in it, natural vanilla (ie not vanillin) and it's so strong he'll only want a little bit - so not much sugar, but there's still some. Any juices are pure fruit; they really should be diluted with water. No tea, no coffee. If you're doing vegetable juices then you will have to add in lots of carrots to every batch and/or home made apple/pear juice. Sorry, in the end, you have to get your child away from very sweet things. Guest guest
I know, sorry, but I still don’t think it’s common practice to give even herbal teas even on this list, although I could be wrong. They are probably good for them but I’ve never thought about giving them to Tom. I suppose one way to get your child to drink less is to gradually lessen the amount of sweeteners or sugar. I don’t know much about SCD but xylitol is generally thought to be a healthy sweetener (high in glutamate though, apparently). Sorry seems it’s just a tough thing! We didn’t have organic fruit juices here either until recently, so I can sympathise. Guest guest
Hi Goran, My kids did not like water either. When they were small I used to make dilute chamomile tea and keep that in the fridge and mix it with apple juice...might go nicely with the pear juice and give the water some flavor...that might make it easier to gradually reduce the pear juice. We're doing the anti-candida diet now...the kids drink goat milk (1/2 gallon each per day) which has really helped in getting off the juice, if it is tolerated. The doc considers goat milk to be much less " sweet " than cow's milk...I don't know if this has to do with the different casein protein (a2) but it is supposed to be much easier on the digestion. The goat milk makes a great vehicle for dissolving the probiotics. Lots of my friends use stevia to cut down on sugar, but our doc advises against all sweetener substitutes (stevia, xylitol, honey, the lot) when combatting candida. He insists on no fruit...if the kids have an apple we are supposed to take 5 capsules of probiotic. Alternatively, if your boy likes lemonade you could gradually make it more dilute until you end up with water flavored with a little lemon...the less lemon, the less sweetener needed. Good luck...change is tough. I hope it works for you to go gradual. Guest guest
we get through a lot of chamomile and mint tea, and also Sleepy time tea which contains rose buds. It's very calming but.... elaine's book doesn't mention rose buds (unsurprisingly) so hard to tell whether they're SCD or not. But presumably weak tea, in quantity, is refreshing. Maybe water and lemon juice is the answer - it's quite sensory, quite sharp. Maybe it's a whole education thing for his tastebuds - and in the long term better to have grief now to really crack the yeast issues once and for all. That's how we feel at the moment. Guest guest
It will be evry hard, but I think that the only solutin is to make him a compote and no need for add sugar suplm... or to give him only a pure water and thats all...stephaniesirr wrote: we get through a lot of chamomile and mint tea, and also Sleepy timetea which contains rose buds.
