First thing..I am having so much fun...but anyway...it " feels " like there's an

awful lot of emphasis on my lower body. I'm on circuits for weeks 1 through 3

right now. So I feel like my upper body is not getting enough attention? The

first day my lowers were super sore the next day but yesterday I did circuit B

and my arms, chest, shoulders don't hurt at all.

It just seems like there's lots of squats, lunges, stepping etc and then my

cardio always consists of walking, jogging, sprinting so I feel like I'm using

my legs sooooo much. It just feels uneven for some reason.

Are these workouts going to make me smaller overall even though it feels like

my lower body is being worked harder?

With RCR's emphasis on muscular endurance over size/strength. You're not

going to be lifting heavy or feeling really sore afterward like you would

with BFL. You're not going to be building muscle, especially not in your

upper body. The idea is to get smaller overall and to burn a lot of

calories. Jumping, lunging, stepping, and squatting burn more calories and

create a bigger metabolic bang than say... a chest press or a bicep curl.

So, yes, there is a major focus on lower body moves that keep your heart

rate up. That's intentional. You still hit every muscle group with every

workout. Nothing is neglected, but you're going to feel like your legs are

taking the biggest beating. They definitely are. :-)

I didn't take measurements, but after 6 weeks, my stretchy skinny jeans are

hanging loose and I can pull my shorts over my hips without unbuttoning or

unzipping them (luckily they have a drawstring). So, don't worry that your

lower body is going to hulk up from all the squatting and lunging. I

definitely got smaller.

I love that commercial with the big weird legs. Trust me though, pedaling

THE WORLD is a bit more resistance than a Valslide reverse lunge. :-D I

don't think you have to worry about monster legs.

Speaking of pedaling the world...I sold my hybrid and bought a road bike last

month. Then I got

really stupid and started to ride with my triathlete friends. Last Sunday we

rode OVER Mt.

Diablo. We did a 2200 foot climb on a 50 mile ride. My legs will stop fitting

into my slacks any

day now...if my heart doesn't explode from the change in altitude.

I am such a weenie on a bike. I have trouble pedaling up my own driveway. I

bow to you and your ability to cycle over mountains.

Actually, this is an excellent analogy to what we do here. When I started

riding, I hadn't been

on a bike for 30 years. I got my drivers license and quit riding my bike, in

1975. When I first

started out I just went around the block, fearing for my life the whole way. I

had problems with

the cleats and fell off the bike several times at stop lights just like Artie

in Laugh-In.

Tetered right over. But I kept getting back up, dusting myself off and working

hard. Now I ride

around 15-16mph over a distance of 30-50 miles regularly and can take it down a

mountain at 30

mph. It's just like the program. You might teter over now and again, but if

you keep getting up,

you'll make progress.

The first time I ever got cleats, I decided to take it around the back

yard in the grass first. I went a few feet and fell over.

Here I am laying on the ground, clipped in, like a bug on my back. My

then SO looks down at me and says, " You're not gonna ride on the road

with those things, are you? "

I'm better now ;)

LOL! Trying it out on the grass is pretty crafty. Not me, I had to fall over at

a crowded stop
