Guest guest
Hi Laurie, Glad you joined us. You're obviously a strong woman if that first bod pod reading didn't give you a total freaking heart attack! Saying that you're 40% body fat and obese when you're only 5'2 " and 120lbs sounds awfully squirrely. If somebody had given me those numbers, my reaction probably would have landed me on the nightly news. LOL But hey, whether the reading is exactly right, at least it's going down quickly! So, congratulations on that. It sounds like you work for a great company. My employer provides us with stairs, and that's about the extent of our " fitness facility. Guest guest
Oh, I did freak out. I was even upset with the trainer who did the assessment. Poor thing! I wish I could say that everyone else was measuring too high as well, but I know some girls that measured at 10, 16, and 19%. I must say that I've checked out your blog and your photos. I am so impressed! You are definitely an inspiration! I'm more motivated after seeing your results. I haven't cheated yet today and it's Sunday! Laurie > > Hi Laurie, > > Glad you joined us. Guest guest
I look at some of those before and after pics in the book and success journal and sometimes think - there's NO POSSIBLE WAY her body fat was that high! AND I look at other people and think, THERE'S NO POSSIBLE WAY her body fat was that low!!! I can't imagine it's an exact science. Cyndi and I aren't checking until we finish week 12....and by golly, if there isn't a significant change, then I swear 'll throw the dadburned thing thru the window!!! Then I'll probably go drown in several margarita's with 3 baskets of chips and atleast 2 cheesedips......ahhhhh......self punishment at it's finest!!! Honestly, if there isn't significant change, I simply won't believe it! My legs are like rocks!!! So I do know without a shadow of a doubt that I'm gaining significant muscle....atleast in the lower body... Challenge 2 will show the significant challenge in the upper body and stomache~~~ My 16 year old son told me today that I looked like a teenager! LOVE THAT KID!!!! I think I told you I'm brainwashing my high school students to say, " You look very thin today Mrs. Webster. " Sincerity truly is not a concern at this point!!!! hehehehe I'm bored with my diet and failed to plan this weekend therefore, I planned to fail~ Hopefully I'll be back on the wagon first thing tomorrow morning....But I dare say - that HOT Krispy Kreme doughnut was TOTALLY worth it!!!!! Have a great day! Webster www.michellebaileywebster.com Re: About me Hi Laurie, Glad you joined us. Guest guest
I had my bodyfat checked using a bodpod and calipers one year when I was 23 years old and doing BFL, 140 lbs, and 5'7'. The calipers said I was at 18% and the bodpod said I was near 30% and almost in the obese range. The bodpod has very different readings than calipers from my experience. If I were you, I would have the caliper test done. Most people use that as a measurement so when you are comparing your numbers you won't want to start crying and have a heart attach. But I also had the same experience and I can tell you I did not look remotely obese then:). Guest guest
I am 5'2 3/4 and 130 lbs... My body fat is 24.5 with the Omron... A month ago it was 25.5 with the Omron and 26.5 with the calipers, so to me, 40% seems way off. > > I had my bodyfat checked using a bodpod and calipers one year when I > was 23 years old and doing BFL, 140 lbs, and 5'7'. Guest guest
> The bodpod has very different readings than calipers > from my experience. There are alot of variables (and human error) that can go into misreadings even in a bodpod. From their own website, you have to be careful of what you wear for example - jewelry, eyeglasses or anything thats not part of you can offset correct results - clothing should be minimal, usually a skin tight lycra or spandex bathingsuit or single layer compression shorts with a lightweight jog bra (no wires or padding allowed)and you need to wear a swim cap to compress any air pockets within your hair. So easy error probability. Also they mention using an *accurate* scale as part of the bodpods mass/volume calculation. In reality the word accurate and scale dont go together. They vary by make, model, what you are wearing, when you last ate, etc etc and can be such LIARS! Also they mention you should not be tested for two hours after exercising, no talking or laughing movements while inside as you have to sit still and should be in a completely relaxed state when tested (yeah put me inside a closed in little space and I wont be very relaxed!) http://www.bodpod.com/p_bodFAQ.php And it seemas to me that you would get very different bodyfat readings from hydrostatic or bodpod vs calipers as the first two read your internal fat (some necessary to protect your organs) as well as your external while the calipers (skin fold test) is only figuring out your external subcutaneous(below the skin) fat. No matter which one you choose to go by, regard it as ONLY a guideline and not the end all be all bottom line. If its going down each time, thats the only thing to be noted in that it shows you are going in the right direction, no matter what the number says when you start off. :-) joni ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ *Lift well, Eat less, Walk fast, Live long*
