Guest guest
You did have an extremely challenging year Jen. Your accomplishment though in your profession is something to be very proud of. You worked extremely hard to get that and I KNOW you can apply that same attitude to fitness and health too. I know you didn't mean do the exercise for you, it's just that so many of my WW members tell me they come to meetings to get motivated... I turn around and tell them your leader (me or anyone else) and other members can encourage, cheer and inspire you but true motivation comes from within... some days the motivation is REALLY low and those are excellent days to come into a meeting and get that encouragement, cheering and inspiration that can help you reach down further and grab some more motivation though (so for us here in this group, the equivalent is to read other people's postings about their exercise and struggles to overcome lack of motivation and to post about our own to get some encouragement). That's all I meant. Anyway, keep remembering how hard you worked to get that QA III, despite all the health and other challenges you faced this year and use that strength and that success from your hard work to help you remember that you have the inner resources you need to lose weight and get yourself fit too and achieve any other goals you have for yourself (if you can identify specifically what those inner resource are that you had then and can try to use again now that will help you a lot too, I just led WW classes on that subject last week as a matter of fact) . I'll be here too, along with so many others, cheering you on when you're doing well and, I hope, lifting when you're down too. I hope 2008 is full of blessings for you Jen!!! Plus, today is my 1 year anniversary as a consistent exerciser!! Yes, last year, like this year, I had extra time between festivities and decided to get a workout in. For some reason, last year it kicked off my wanting to exercise consistently, starting with 2 days a week, then 3, then more. Now I'm usually averaging between 4 and 6, sometimes 3 and sometimes 7 but mostly 5. I don't know why except that it had been buzzing around in my head for a long time and on Christmas Day 2006 I just started! :-) Anyway, today I didn't have a lot of time so I did the 30 minute walking workout. DH got me 3 lb. dumbbells (I thought I had 3 pounders before but when I weighed them I found out they were actually 2.5 pounds) among other things for Christmas (gifts of fitness posting coming later or tomorrow, we're due at my mother-in-law's soon) and I used those for the first time. For those not familiar, this workout uses hand weights for upping the cardio work and for some upper body and standing abs toning mostly while you're in motion (you don't have to use weight though, a modifier uses no weights). I would have never thought an extra 1 total pound, between both dumbbells, would really make much of a difference but holy cow, it sure did! I got such an awesome workout today! I was working so hard it seemed like a totally different workout than what I had been doing with this one! I'm noticing my cardio endurance has really shot up lately with all the cardio I've been doing, especially the more challenging workouts (like this one today) and that's pretty cool. Anyway, gotta run. Merry Christmas to everyone!!
Guest guest
You sound like you have a plan. You have to really want it, and you have to really pull from the inside and force yourself to do it. I agree, there are going to be many many days where you don't want to. Those are the days you should allow for a lighter workout. Just do something. It will keep your motivation up, an you will feel so much better about yourself too. Not that I am saying, work-out every day, but work-out EVERY day you had told yourself you were going to (whether it was 7 days a week or 5 or whatever). YOU CAN DO THIS!!!! HUGS..Darcy- Thanks , I know what you meant. So many people think that there is a magic pill, magic diet, magic SOMETHING that will help them to lose weight. Really it just takes hard work, motivation (why are you doing this?) and determination to lose the weight and keep it off (which is sometimes harder.) I've lost weight before (not this much but a lot) and re-gained it because I still thought I looked fat, I didn't realize that it takes more time and other exercises to change the shape of my body, now I do. I feel that I know how to lose the weight, I just need to stick with it and not give up! I need to change my whole lifestyle so that I can have the healthy body that I want and deserve. On one Ophra's shows an audience member asked Bob Greene (Ophra's trainer) how he can get motivated to work out. Bob told him that if you don't have the motivation to exercise then you just have to force yourself to do it, then later the motivation will come. That is what I'm going to do. Since I get bored easily I'm not going to limit myself to doing any one exercise or rotation everyday because I may get bored and stop. I'm going to have a variety of videos to choose from PLUS I'm going to walk on my treadmill and ride my stationary bike. I know that it will take me a long time to lose the weight but it will come off, I just have to be patient. Jen nancydewolf < nancydewolf@...> wrote: You did have an extremely challenging year Jen. Guest guest
Hi Jen, You say something incredibly important in this email... and I wish my program would quote better but you say you regained the weight because you thought you still looked fat (in other words, what was the point of all that work). Just knowing that about yourself is INCREDIBLY huge for your future success. Self-awareness is so much a part of making permanent changes. Armed with this knowledge about yourself, and the plans you're working on for exercise (so that you see your shape changing as the fat gets out of the way of the muscles showing) you should, I hope, have much better success. I have a lifetime member at goal who regularly attends one of my meetings. She looks great but complains that she still looks "flabby" to her and wondered if she should go down further because she was disappointed with how she looks now that she's at goal. I think she'll end up too thin (in the face especially) if she does and asked, "Do you need to lose more or just tone up what you have?" She decided she needs to tone it up and had already started working out recently and now will do more toning work. I had the same thing happen to me. I lost all my weight without exercising and was left with "flabby" looking arms, legs and stomach and felt frustrated too until I started working out regularly and seeing changes. I could see changes fairly quickly because I didn't have excess fat in the way of the definition at that point so it helped me stay motivated more easily I think than it would have been if I'd been exercising regularly while I was losing (but it still would have been better if I'd been exercising). You're way ahead of where I was in that respect. Make sure you take measurements NOW because sometimes the scale doesn't give you the news you want and you're not sure what the mirror is saying but yet you're losing inches and clothes start to fit better anyway. Take measurements again if you start getting frustrated and hopefully they'll give you the good news you need to keep yourself going when it is hard to do that (and the mirror and scale are not helping much). You know what has stopped you before, possibly measurements will help you overcome that if it starts to happen again. Use not so helpful things as FEEDBACK, not indictments of failure. This is very valuable feedback about yourself and being aware of it can help you get past it this time and keep on, even though it might be very difficult at times. Your attitude about it too is awesome! Instead of beating yourself up for having given up in the fast you are already using the information as feedback and learning from it to make positive changes. That is so great! It sounds like your challenging 2007 has had some good effects. You've obviously taken the time to reflect on your health and the roadblocks to a healthier you. It will be exciting to workout with you in 2008 Jen!! Re: Christmas Day: Kathy Power Walk for Weight Loss Great job on becoming a consistent exerciser! Guest guest
Jen, My DH and I have dubbed this Unlucky 07 because of what a crappy year it has been. He lost his Dad, I lost my Mom, my son was hit by a truck, my daughter was injured in a car accident, and we took a major cut in pay and practically gave away our house to move so we could take care of his grandmother. This is the worst year ever! I'm totally with you on that!!! But I think you are going to be like I'm going to be and totally have the greatest year ever in 08! I know you can achieve your goals and I can't wait to see pics of you at your goal weight! Guest guest
Yep 2007 sucked for both of us but I know that 2008 will be better! I'm going after it this year. This isn't a new year's resolution, it's a goal that I've set for myself and when I make up my mind I can do ANYTHING! Thanks Tonya, Jen Tonya - wrote: Jen, My DH and I have dubbed this Unlucky 07 because of what a crappy year it has been.
