If you're going to weigh yourself at night with a full day of food and

water in your system, then you may as well pick up a potted plant and

a phone book and a cat and step on the scale with those too. :-)

Seriously, only weigh yourself naked in the morning before you've had

anything to eat or drink. Otherwise you're willingly adding the weight

of six meals and a gallon of water to the number you see. It's like

psychological warfare.

i will ditch the nightly weigh-ins. i always weigh morning and night, as i can

usually (usually, ha) gauge where i'll be in the morning based on the night.

(i'm that neurotic, lol.) but i will ditch them. they do nothing for me, and i

know it. (and this morning, i was back at what i have weighed all week. i wasn't

expecting any weight loss this week, but i was expecting not getting much

bigger. which, apparently, i haven't.)

of course, now that DH and DD are barfing, i guess i can either expect: a) not

being able to do much program-wise except eat right today as i chase my DS and

keep him away from the barf-fest; or B) guaranteed " weightloss " if i catch

whatever those two have. yay, me.

it never fails. i start BFL, and something like this happens. i am determined

this time not to derail, though.

Life happens. Expect that it will. There is no way to create a perfect

three months without obstacles and temptations and PMS and ups and downs.

I took four days off from my workouts (five with the freeday) two weeks ago

to get over bronchitis, and last week, I had a few days off because I had a

D & C and then I had to ease back into my workouts. Through it all, I tried

to concentrate on " doing the food " . Well, this week I had a fantastic

weigh-in and lost inches EVERYwhere.

When I started the program, I gained 4 lbs. Then I lost 7. Now I've gained back

a few, but I know I'm swollen up because of the heat. However, my BF% is down

and I went from a 10 to an 8, and some 6's. So relax. Actually, I am freaking

out too. Wah!!! I know it's going to happen, with me it's just slow as

molasses.

I am learning that it is the imperfect challenge where we learn the

most about dealing with food and exercise and finding what works for

us in Body for LIFE. I am learning what a portion is. So where ever

I am, even if I'm not in control of what food there is, I know what

types of foods and how much will be my meal... So I can improvise in

rough situations.

Being perfect for 3 months is not the goal (for me).

- Learning how to recover from a slip in record time is a goal.

(recover in 1 minute or the next day, rather than 3 days or 2 weeks)

- Learning how to not deprive myself of what food tempts me, but have

it be a carb portion (today with family there were tuna sandwiches on

rolls, and there was chocolate. My meal was 2 tuna sandwiches with

1/2 roll and the rest of the bread went in the trash, and then 3

little choclates, and I was satisfied and proud.

- Learning how to deal with my voice that says " I don't wanna "

regarding exercise, etc

- Learning how to stop an evening " hand-to-mouth " of even healthy

foods, nuts can add up SO quickly... Learning how to stop, how to be

conscious, to recognize that wanting the taste of s hot dog and

having 1/4 of a hot dog might not make me not " want the ice cream...

" and " want the ... chocolate " ... and then STOPPING, after that 1/4

hot dog, because I know that the ice cream will not satisfy my

wanting feeling

I think that the real learning in Body for Life (for me), is

developing skills and alternative behavior while NOT being perfect.

It's not THAT hard to be perfect for 3 months, and then go back to

the real world and have developed no skills really, other than just

another diet. I don't think that's what BFL is about. Eating and

exercising like a for strength and for health, not dieting for weak

thinness.

Etana, 62, currently in week 6 of Turbulence Training Intermediate,

and in years of BFL eating
