Dear Colleagues, The profession needs your help! Currently the Oregon Workers’ Compensation systems have extremely closed Managed Care Organization (MCOs) panels which are discriminatory to our profession. As many of you have found out though there are few chiropractic colleagues on these panels the MCOs are not allowing more colleagues on the panel and when many of you have repeatedly applied your are rejected being told the panel is full…baloney. For example: Portland-Metro estimated population 2.2 million with 785 chiropractic physicians the following are the number of DCs on each panel for this area; 1. Oregon Health Systems 10 doctors of chiropractic or 1.2% of the 785 DCs2. CareMark Comp 43 doctors of chiropractic or 5%3. Providence 43 5% This numbers are disgusting and show clear and convincing evidence of discrimination against our profession while at the same time the insurers, employers, and MCO representatives “steer” and mandate injured workers treat at the local Occupational Medical Clinics which in my opinion is a biased environment for those workers. WHAT WE NEED YOU TO DO: What we need are letters from your injured worker patients who were forced away from your care being forced to see a DC that is on the MCO panel. Many of these injured workers and/or their family members have been patients of yours for years and they know and trust you. We also need those same workers as many as possible that will be willing to come to Salem and testify giving their individual stories nothing has more impact than real injured workers telling their story live in front of the key committees. Thanks dear colleagues for any help you can give we must gain as many letters as possible over the next few months leading up to the 2013 legislative session…. To The Continued Good Fight!! Does it makes sense to have the DC percent the same as the percent of 'spinal'

complaints in the WC system? If 'spinal' issues are 35% of the WC cases then

35% of the panel should be DCs. Given the new Back Care Guidelines where

conservative care is at the top of the list for first care this could be a

powerful argument. s.fuchs dc
